5 BABY FANGS!

Synopsis:

During the Civil War, Union soldier, John Alden took a musket ball to the gut. As he gasped his final breath, he was turned into a vampire and started life anew in Amber Heights, Missouri. For over one hundred and fifty years, he's lived a rather solitary life as a vampire Enforcer.

Young single mother, Joann Clarkson, needs a job and fast. Hoping to be rehired, she returns to Dr. Michaela Blautsauger's lab prepared to eat a hefty helping of humble pie. She comes to regret that decision when she's taken hostage. Things look grim but she'll never stop fighting to escape. Her son needs his mama.

As an Enforcer, John must hunt down the vampire who kidnapped Joann. In his search, John winds up babysitting her toddler Cody. Changing diapers might be worse than getting staked, but nothing compares to how he feels when both mother and child fall into danger again.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a cute book- very different than most stuff out there. The main character was adorable, you can tell he's a "mans man" but facing down a toddler was just his perfect match to unbalance his manliness- at first. The tasks told of what he goes through was amazing to read in the sense that a man almost NEVER has to deal with what he did and he tackled it head on and almost perfectly. This book cracked me up at his cluelessness (if that is even a word) with what taking care of a toddler actually requires and it was so great to read. Of course when the mom is introduced into the mix I totally understood her concerns as a mother as well and the scenario she was in. The chemistry between them was sweet and not BAM in your face- I thought it was really well written to be honest. This is a great book and I'm interested to see where the next book will take us.

The man slowly turns his head, and bright emerald eyes lock with my own slate blue ones. I swallow hard before jerking my eyes away from his to focus on the patient. “What happened?”
The little boy on the exam table looks between the man and me. His brow is furrowed in confusion. When he realizes the man isn’t answering he takes it upon himself to do so. “I jumped off the swing.”
“A daredevil I see.” I force a smile on my face even though the man is still blocking my way. Reminding myself time is of the utmost importance I ask. “Umm, do you mind moving, so I can check out his arm?”
Before he can respond I hear the front door bell ding, muffled voices, and the sound of more foot fall heading my way. I twist my head to look behind me only to find the largest man I’ve ever seen.  He has to duck his head to walk into the room, he’s so tall. Somehow, I work up the courage to ask. “Can I help you?”
Around the giant man a small attractive brunette woman pushes through and answers for him. “That’s our son.”
“Then who is this?” I ask pointing at the man still on his knees.
“My brother.” The giant answers, and then as if taking in the strange scene for the first time asks. “What in the world are you doing on the ground?”
Oddly, instead of responding to his brother, still staring at me, the man on his knees says. “You smell like peppermint cocoa.”
“Oh hell.” The brunette woman says before giggling.
“About time.” The giant chuckles.
I ignore them both and ask. “What?”
The man slowly picks himself up off the floor, moves closer to me (not that we aren’t all already cramped in this small room), and states. “You smell like a Christmas drink.”
“Did you fall too?” I ask.
“What?” He asks in return.
“Did you fall and hit your head?” I elaborate my earlier question.
The woman and giant break out into hysterical laughter this time. What is wrong with these people?
“Of course, I haven’t.”
“Have you been drinking?” I ask, keeping with my line of questions. The parents of the boy start to laugh harder. I continue to ignore them.
“Are you asking if I’m drunk?” The man questions me back.
 “Well, yes.”
“Alcohol has no impact on shifters.” I hear Megan holler from outside the room, having clearly been listening in to this train wreck.
“Really?” I ask the man.
“Really.” He responds, obviously getting agitated.
“Can they be diabetic?” I ask my next question.
“What the hell are you getting at?” The man asks, his bright green eyes flashing with agitation.
“You’re not making any sense, so I’m trying to assess the situation to make sure there’s nothing medically wrong with you.” I explain what I believe is obvious. Instead of responding the man starts emanating a low growl.
I turn my head to ask the giant. “Is this normal behavior from your brother?”
Wiping the tears of laughter from his eyes, he responds, “Absolutely not.”
“Okay. Should I be concerned that he’s growling like that?” I have no experience around shifters, other than Doc, and not once in the all the years I’ve known him has he ever growled at me.
“He’s not going to harm you.” The giant answers, giving me some relief.
“He might bite her.” The woman gives as a contradicting answer.

Return of the Lycan King: Nicholas and KristenReturn of the Lycan King: Nicholas and Kristen by Candace Blackburn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a first read of this author for me and I absolutely LOVED IT! I cannot wait for the next book but it looks like it might be a while since this was published in 2015. The chemistry between Nicolas and Kristen was hot. I loved how real Kristen's character was with the flaws she was dealing with mainly in her mind as she had overcome her issues. For me I love when books such of this nature still have very real human characteristics and then those with some of the harder to relate to make it just more believable in my opinion. As normal with mates it is instant attraction, but with Kristen being raised human she doesn't quite understand it which I think is a universal thing when it comes to the "perfect man" showing interest in you. The side characters were perfect and I love the twists throughout the book and they were done just right. Yes there is a cliffhanger but it wasn't the worst one I've read but it will definitely leave the mind reeling.

Heat (Dark Kings, #12)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Whew! Fanning self at the moment. The title of this book is aptly named. Nikolai and Esther have unbelievable chemistry that fills the pages. They are made for one another. I absolutely love this series. The Dragon shifters are smokin' hot, pun intended. There's no need to start at the beginning of this series because each book is perfect as a standalone. However, after reading one, you may want to go back and plow through the others. Nikolai's story is fantastic! There are other paranormals in this book that you will notice throughout the series. You may need to check and see if your favorite has a story out already.

This author always does a splendid job when it comes to creating her characters and their back story. While there are hurdles to overcome, as with most paranormal romances, readers are guaranteed awesomeness in this book along with a happily ever after. And yes, I'm still waiting for Rhi's book.
