Here are six sentences from my current WIP Not So Wicked...
Steam began wafting off Jeremy,
but this time it was Drake to speak up from where he sat. “That vamp you’re
referring to? I guarantee whatever that’s cooking inside that big head of hers
includes everyone, and not just vampires, even though there are more of us than there
are of you.” His eyes had reverted back to their hazel color, but just then
they flashed back to red. “True, the only ones that have to worry about the sun
is us. But, last I checked, none of you have the slightest clue what to expect
when you have to deal with the earth’s moon. Sounds to me like we all need each
Here are 6 sentences from my very first Young Adult in the world of Underlayes...
There was nothing but silence for
a minute, then Mz. Basheeba (school secretary/banshee) said to Mistress
Veronique, and whichever other teachers she was referring to, “Before any of
you say what’s twirling in those young heads of yours, it wasn’t any of those
kids. Matter of fact, just get on out of here while I try to get things sorted.
One sec before you do though.” Sounded like she opened and closed a drawer
before she continued, “’Cause I’m more than sure y’all left your doors wide
open, and this one here is too…” Then she let out an extra loud shrill that had
everyone clasping their hands over their ears. “Serves all y’all right for
listening in to grown folk’s business! Class assembly next period!! Y’all’s
ears should be healed by then! If they ain’t, tough tits!”

“The way the

fascinating to watch it play out...” – SLHReviews
“The characters feel real they have flaws and
personalities that draw you to them…” – Cupcakes and #Books
“The #romance was
off the charts. The twists and turns had me guessing. The only bad thing is
that it ended way to soon, I was not ready to leave the world that #hooked me

When Miranda makes music with Leo, she plays like an angel. But Leo knows they’re playing with fire. There’ll be hell to pay – literally. A dark romance with a supernatural twist: The Omen for the Twilight generation.
What price would you pay for superlative talent?
Sparks fly when pianist Leo steps in to help Miranda audition for a violin scholarship to the prestigious Harkness Conservatory. He’s intense, patient, gorgeously French, and he plays the piano like a dream. The way they play the Kreutzer Sonata goes beyond anything she’s experienced.
But while 17-year old Miranda is impressing the panel, another candidate goes missing. From that moment, something ungodly seeps into her life. The question is – did the music draw in the forces of darkness? Or was it already there?
Oblivious to the ongoing search for the missing musician, Miranda and Leo travel to a medieval town in France, to perform in a prize-winners’ concert. Their attraction intensifies, even as Leo is revealed to have disturbing, even violent, family connections. Miranda is warned off…but it may already be too late.
Only a secretive, ancient sect can protect Miranda now. How can she accept their help when she can’t quite accept that she’s in danger?

About Mari Rey
Mari Rey is a fan of action adventure, dark romance and sci-fi and fantasy thrillers. When not writing screenplays or novels Mari spends way too much time watching TV and adores Once Upon A Time, Game of Thrones and Stargate Universe. My family is what keeps my heart beating, and my world a happy place to be.
I was born in San Francisco, raised in Maui, Hawaii, and recently moved with my husband and children to Alaska.
I'm a daydreamer, a caffeine and peppermint addict. I love to laugh, love to read, and love to escape reality. One of my greatest joys is creating fantasy worlds filled with adventure and romance, and sharing it with others.
One day I hope to find my own magic wardrobe, and ride away on a magical unicorn. Until then...I'll keep writing!

“Emma, wake up.” I blinked several times, trying to focus in the darkness, only to find Kade’s distraught eyes hovering close by. “Another nightmare?” he asked.
I nodded, wiping the beads of sweat from my brow and then cuddled close to him, resting my head on his chest. The beating of his heart had a way of calming my anxiety, soothing my every fear.
“Maybe you should talk to Alaine,” he whispered, pressing his lips to the top of my head.
“I’ll talk to her in the morning,” I exhaled.
“You’re shaking.” His hands rubbed down my arms. “Was it about me?”
I could sense a hint of concern in his voice.
“No,” I breathed. “It was about Alaine this time.”
I tried to erase the visions of her scorched and blistered body from my mind, but it was still there. In full color. Terrorizing me. The smell of smoke was still lingering in my nose, and the heat of the flames still felt warm on my skin.
I didn’t want to worry anyone with my troubles, but it was the third time this week I’d woken Kade with these horrifying nightmares. Every night it was a different loved one, and they were getting stronger as they progressed.
What was most unnerving was the shadowy figure with onyx wings present in every one. I could never make out the face but could sense its twisted pleasure as it watched me suffer.
I’d had enough of watching my loved ones endure horrible and painful deaths. Although they were nightmares, the pain was real and lingered for days after. It was something I couldn’t just erase. These dreams ate at my soul, keeping me tight in its cold, indifferent arms, holding on through my waking hours.
I prayed they weren’t premonitions, and I prayed Kade wouldn’t be in any future nightmares. I’d watched him suffer in real life, and it’d shattered my entire being. Now that we were bonded, watching it happen again would kill me.
I glanced over at the clock. It was four in the morning, but I didn’t want to go back to sleep.
“Where are you going?” Kade asked as I slipped from the warmth of his arms.
“To make some coffee and read the book Lia sent me.”
“You sure you don’t want to stay here with me?”
“You know I do, I just don’t want to go back to sleep.”
His hazel eyes swirled with desire. “I didn’t say we had to sleep.”
“Are you seducing me, Mr. Anders?”
A grin played on his lips as he pulled the covers down. “Maybe.”
“Well then,” I exhaled, jumping in next to him. “Coffee can wait.”
When General Arbuckle reveals the peculiar existence to the world, the Academy of Peculiars is forced to close as a way to protect the faculty and students. Sophie Harper is more focused on the fact that her best friend, Jane, may actually be alive than Arbuckle and the United States military. Daryl's older and mental brother, Marvin, is quick to promise Jane's safe return after brokering a deal with Daryl and Ethan, the academy's dean. But something doesn't sit well with Sophie about Marvin, and if Jane wasn't involved, she's certain Daryl wouldn't have trusted his brother. On top of that, a familiar body winds up slaughtered at the academy gates. Now it's up to Sophie to figure out who could have done it and why, while dodging flying bullets and suspicious ex-boyfriends. Will wants nothing more to protect her; Sophie wants nothing more than find her friend - and herself.
In the epic conclusion to the Stranger Series, Sophie will learn that just because someone is ambitious does not mean they're evil, those that she trusts the most have the power to betray her with relative ease, and the best relationship she can ever hope to have is the one with herself.
Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I'm a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says 'like' more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I'm a 26 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I'm a writer. Like, for real.
I recently signed with Anchor Group Publishing, which will see two of my series being published this year. I've self-published over 15 books, with more on the way, so I'm familiar with both a hybrid-traditional publishing method as well as self-publishing.
I don't speak in third person (normally) nor do I wear glasses (except when I'm feeling particularly mischievous). I'm lucky to have found my soul mate at the ripe old age of 22, even though he frustrates me on purpose to get a reaction out of me. We live near Disneyland, have two rambunctious female puppies, and have a beautiful baby girl. He has two amazing boys, and has gotten me hooked on Smallville, watching soccer (okay, okay FOOTBALL - FC Barcelona, baby!), and Cancun Juice.
Gia Kearns would
rather fight with boys than kiss them. That is, until Arik, a leather clad
hottie in the Boston Athenaeum, suddenly disappears. While examining the book
of world libraries he abandoned, Gia unwittingly speaks the key that sucks her
and her friends into a photograph and transports them into a Paris library,
where Arik and his Sentinels—magical knights charged with protecting humans
from the creatures traveling across the gateway books—rescue them from a
Jumping into some of
the world's most beautiful libraries would be a dream come true for Gia, if she
weren’t busy resisting her heart or dodging an exiled wizard seeking revenge on
both the Mystik and human worlds. Add a French flirt obsessed with Arik and a
fling with a young wizard, and Gia must choose between her heart and her head,
between Arik's world and her own, before both are destroyed.
Brenda Drake, the
youngest of three children, grew up an Air Force brat and the continual new kid
at school. Her fondest memories growing up is of her eccentric, Irish
grandmother’s animated tales, which gave her a strong love for storytelling. So
it was only fitting that she would choose to write stories with a bend toward
the fantastical. When Brenda’s not writing or doing the social media thing,
she’s haunting libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops or reading someplace
quiet and not at all exotic (much to her disappointment).
pressed the screen, and it went dark. “How do we know he’s not being forced to
“The password, May Agnes guide
Lei replied. “She’s the patron saint of Asile.”
Agnes? That was the silver
woman’s name that formed from my globe. Did the saints have something
to do with the Chiavi?
I faced Ricardo. “How did you
know I was here?”
“The werehounds tracked your
scent from a shirt Katy…excuse me, your nana…gave us.”
“Can your pack help us save
Couve?” Arik asked him.
“They will, but Gia must go with
me.” He noticed the protest forming on my lips. “Merlin said no exceptions. I’m
to get you to the shelter.”
From the corridor came yells,
scuffles, and the continual wail of the warning siren.
“I can’t go with you,” I said.
“I have to fight with them.”
“She can’t fight with us,” Lei
said, glancing at the door. “She almost killed Kale.”
I turned to Sinead. “You know
what I can do.”
Sinead gave me a pity smile.
“Yes, but you have no control over it. Let Ricardo take you to your father and
I thought of Kale lying
motionless, near death, and I hated that she was right. As much as I wanted to
stay, I might be more hindrance than help. I caved. “Okay,” I said, defeated.
Lei flew out of the room with the Laniars on her heels.
Sinead hugged me, then rushed
after them. Arik moved over to me and cupped my face gently in his hands. His
eyes held the intensity that always drew me to him.
I swallowed my breath in
anticipation. All the sounds around us went silent.
He bent and lightly brushed my
lips with a kiss. His lips were soft and oh, so tender. Butterflies swooped and
curled inside me, and it felt like the ground disappeared from beneath my feet.
He pulled back a little and said, “Regardless of the fact that you’re a royal
pain in the arse, I fancy you. Listen to Ricardo and don’t do anything rash.”
He gave me another kiss and
rushed out the door. My heart twisted in my chest as he disappeared. I touched
my mouth and exhaled. He liked me. It was against the laws, but he told me he
fancied me. Maybe we had no future, but we had now.
“What a sweet display,” Ricardo
said, dragging me out of my haze. “I’m not one for rules or laws, but I’d be
careful there. The punishment would be much worse for him than you.”
“Why?” I stared at the door as
if I’d see Arik there.
“He’s a leader. He knows
better.” Ricardo headed to the window. “Are you ready to fly?”
The world is coming to an end and all clues seem to point to Lucifer’s army.
