In the Mood Fur Love

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An amazing collection of stories from three amazing authors. I loved every minute of reading these stories they were great from start to finish. I loved the complexities of the characters and the idea that anything worth having is worth fighting for, even if that means fighting to break down the walls the one you want has erected. I loved these stories and I cannot wait to see what else these authors have in store.

And what better time than when everyone will be together on Easter? But, things start going downhill before they even walk through the front door.

When she takes him home to meet her family, he soon learns he isn't the only one who's been keeping secrets from her. The fact that her Dad is allergic to cats certainly doesn't help Antonio keep his.

Excerpt:

After going a few more rounds with Mildred, and Mom threatening both of us to stop, I grabbed a snack tray from the kitchen like she told me to. When I went back to grab some cans of pop she said to me, “Make sure you get your boyfriend some milk. I’m sure he’d like some.”

“Mom. Will you can it with the cat talk?”

“Don’t roll your eyes at me young lady!” she said as I made my escape from the kitchen.

I don’t know what I was in such a hurry for. When I stepped back into the living room the tension in there was so palpable I thought I was going to have to go back in the kitchen and get a butcher knife to cut through it.

Millie sat over in the corner where she conveniently pretended to watch the tv, but in actuality she just watched Dad and Antonio do their level best to not look at each other. Upon closer inspection I saw that Dad was watching tv, and also glancing at Antonio out the corner of his eye. And I think he was growling at him; it was so low in his throat that I could have been mistaken. I don’t know if Antonio even payed any attention to what was on the screen, but his left leg shook so bad his entire body seemed to vibrate.

They jumped a little and looked guilty as sin of something when I dropped the tray down onto the table. None of them had even noticed me walk in, “Don’t everybody speak at once.” When I went to sit down on the couch closer to Antonio than Dad, Antonio put his arm around my shoulder, and yes, Dad growled, “Daddy, is there some reason you’re growling at my boyfriend? And what is that smell?” I hadn’t gotten a whiff of anything until just then. But there was an almost visible aroma coming from my dad that reminded me of my old medicine cabinet that my parents kept stocked year-round.

“I was not growling, must just have something caught in my throat.” Was Dad’s throaty, baritone reply. His was the kind of voice that sent chills up a kid’s spine and put fear in their heart when caught doing something bad growing up, trust me. “Hope it wasn’t a hairball.” Antonio choked out a small laugh at that. “That smell is all the Vick’s I got rubbed all in and around my nostrils and upper lip. I’m hoping that and all the pills your mother just shoved down my throat can curtail whatever has my allergies afflux.”

“And what on earth are you watching?” I finally looked up at the flatscreen hanging up over the fireplace mantle to see a bunch of tigers running in the wild. Since Dad was the one holding the remote at that point he must have been the one to pick out the show. But I don’t remember ever seeing him even glance at the Discovery Channel before. “Oh my God, what did he just do to that reindeer?”

“Oh, sweetie, we were just discussing how aggressive tigers are, so I decided to pull this up to prove my point.” Came Dad’s reply.

Which Antonio countered with, “We were also talking about the fact that a pack of wolves could be considered even more aggressive and unpredictable. Just so happened that this episode featured tigers and not wolves.”

Mildred bust out laughing in her chair. Before I could ask her what she found so funny, she jumped out of her seat saying, “I’ma go see if Mom needs any help with dinner.”

SPRING AWAKENING by Natalie-Nicole Bates

Catherina Cabot has quite a story to tell. She claims that after the murder of her family, she was imprisoned inside the crypt for over one hundred years.

Micki is torn between believing whether Catherina’s story is true, or she is merely disturbed and has assumed the identity of a long-deceased woman.

Upwards Over the Mountain by Alison M. Diem

When her secret— and the danger it brings— rears its head when he takes home for Easter, will the two of them have what it takes to survive?

The Spirit of Little Feather by Judy C. Swinson

A childless couple adopts a small child, Maria, in Alabama. When Danny is born eight years later to the couple, Maria learns she is adopted. As a teenager, she’s hungry to find out about her own biological parents and begs her parents to help her. Although her mother is patient and understands her need to know, Maria sees no action on her parent’s part to find out for her.

Then it appears the sun and stars align. On a church sponsored youth trip during Easter week, Maria meets Christain, a young man who is the group’s guide. On a kayak trip down the Crystal River, Maria feels a breeze on her face, no one else in the group feels and she hears sounds no one else hears and sees things no one else sees, except Christian does. Learning they are both adopted, will Christain hold the key to unlock the answers to Maria’s questions about where she comes from? Sometimes it’s in the timing that opens the doors to life’s questions.

Honey and the Easter Bear by Kathia Iblis

When Honey Evans accepted her friend Amy’s invitation to spend Easter with her family, she had no idea her life was about to change forever because in the Alaskan wilderness humans are not always welcome — and bears do not always stay in their animal form. Kody Cavanaugh, alpha of the Kodiak shifter clan, wanted nothing to do with humans or shifters who associate with them. But the Alaskan wilderness is an unpredictable territory that might just bring him what he had always longed for: a delicate human female. Misgivings, broken eggs and Easter traditions brought them together, but will that be enough or are they destined to lose each other?

Sent to Me by Rena Marin

No Arrows Needed by Skylar McKinzie

Synopsis:

For decades, he’s been alone.

Kateri Falsen is a woman of logic and facts. While Priest’s cat can sense her arousal, telling her they’re fated won’t be enough. He’ll have to show her his love: with his words, with his actions, and with his body.

Protecting Kateri from the evil trapped inside him is paramount. But when lost clan members are systematically murdered, he’ll have to choose between exposing his mate to his black magic, or risking her as the next victim.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wonderful paranormal romance with shifters. Definitely heavy on the romance with smoldering hero Priest. He is a dominant alpha male in every sense of the word. When he meets Kateri, he may well have met his match and be brought to his knees by his mate. Kateri isn't sure what to believe about the things she is being told. Ever since she was a little girl, her father told her everything was nonsense. Now she'll have to trust in Priest to keep her safe and trust her heart.

A great setup in the first book of this series. It leaves you ready for book two. There's plenty of room for growth with all the different shifters. I look forward to reading Elise's story.

The man slowly turns his head, and bright emerald eyes lock with my own slate blue ones. I swallow hard before jerking my eyes away from his to focus on the patient. “What happened?”
The little boy on the exam table looks between the man and me. His brow is furrowed in confusion. When he realizes the man isn’t answering he takes it upon himself to do so. “I jumped off the swing.”
“A daredevil I see.” I force a smile on my face even though the man is still blocking my way. Reminding myself time is of the utmost importance I ask. “Umm, do you mind moving, so I can check out his arm?”
Before he can respond I hear the front door bell ding, muffled voices, and the sound of more foot fall heading my way. I twist my head to look behind me only to find the largest man I’ve ever seen.  He has to duck his head to walk into the room, he’s so tall. Somehow, I work up the courage to ask. “Can I help you?”
Around the giant man a small attractive brunette woman pushes through and answers for him. “That’s our son.”
“Then who is this?” I ask pointing at the man still on his knees.
“My brother.” The giant answers, and then as if taking in the strange scene for the first time asks. “What in the world are you doing on the ground?”
Oddly, instead of responding to his brother, still staring at me, the man on his knees says. “You smell like peppermint cocoa.”
“Oh hell.” The brunette woman says before giggling.
“About time.” The giant chuckles.
I ignore them both and ask. “What?”
The man slowly picks himself up off the floor, moves closer to me (not that we aren’t all already cramped in this small room), and states. “You smell like a Christmas drink.”
“Did you fall too?” I ask.
“What?” He asks in return.
“Did you fall and hit your head?” I elaborate my earlier question.
The woman and giant break out into hysterical laughter this time. What is wrong with these people?
“Of course, I haven’t.”
“Have you been drinking?” I ask, keeping with my line of questions. The parents of the boy start to laugh harder. I continue to ignore them.
“Are you asking if I’m drunk?” The man questions me back.
 “Well, yes.”
“Alcohol has no impact on shifters.” I hear Megan holler from outside the room, having clearly been listening in to this train wreck.
“Really?” I ask the man.
“Really.” He responds, obviously getting agitated.
“Can they be diabetic?” I ask my next question.
“What the hell are you getting at?” The man asks, his bright green eyes flashing with agitation.
“You’re not making any sense, so I’m trying to assess the situation to make sure there’s nothing medically wrong with you.” I explain what I believe is obvious. Instead of responding the man starts emanating a low growl.
I turn my head to ask the giant. “Is this normal behavior from your brother?”
Wiping the tears of laughter from his eyes, he responds, “Absolutely not.”
“Okay. Should I be concerned that he’s growling like that?” I have no experience around shifters, other than Doc, and not once in the all the years I’ve known him has he ever growled at me.
“He’s not going to harm you.” The giant answers, giving me some relief.
“He might bite her.” The woman gives as a contradicting answer.
