Release Day Blitz: Bitten by Surprise

BITTEN BY SURPRISE by LIZZY GAYLE
PUBLISHED JUNE 15, 2023
PARANORMAL ROMANCE/VAMPIRE ROMANCE

BLURB:

As a vampire-hating psychic, Char should’ve seen it coming, but she didn’t. Too focused on creating a cure for vampirism after watching her father turned into a bloodsucking menace, she looks at little else, until it’s too late. Not her lab being attacked and destroyed, her life’s work being stolen along with her lab assistant, nor the attractive and dangerous vampire, Julian, who swoops in to save the day, give her a job and the chance to set things right.

But when her lost serum turns up on the streets used as a murder weapon against vamps, she’s forced to hide the truth about her involvement in its development from her new boss in order to join the investigation. As they work together, she’s inexplicably drawn to the very type of creature she should be terrified of. Suddenly, the idea of being bitten becomes a turn on if it’s Julian’s fangs at her pulse.

Forced to admit everything she thought she knew about the bloodsuckers was wrong, Char is left with a decision: Should she create an antidote to save the vampires being murdered—and possibly the one she’s falling for? Or should she finish what she started and try to cure the rest?

The wrong choice could mean a sacrifice she’s not willing to make.

Release Day Blitz: The Binding Stone

The Binding Stone by Lizzy Gayle
The Djinn Book 1
Published October 5, 2021
Paranormal Romance

Blurb

A thousand years of servitude has left Leela more than a little jaded. Betrayal by the man she loved was just the beginning of her lessons on the wickedness of humanity. Her hope for freedom for herself and her fellow Djinn from the stones that bind them has dimmed to a barely-there glimmer over all these years, but it hasn’t yet extinguished.

When the handsome, and idealistic Jered, inadvertently becomes her new master, Leela finds herself wondering if his tenderness and concern may actually be real. And despite her years of suffering and lessons, her heart opens to new possibilities.

As she inches closer to trusting Jered, the past and the enemies that come with it, resurface, threatening the small spark of happiness in Leela’s long life.
After a millennium of suffering what and who is Leela willing to sacrifice for freedom?

CHARACTER INTERVIEW
Leela from The Binding Stone Given by Lizzy Gayle

Me: Welcome Leela! Make yourself comfortable.

Leela: I always do, thank you.

Me: Please introduce yourself so everyone knows who you are:

Leela: My name is Leela and I am Djinn. *eyes glow green*

Me: Should people be afraid of you?

Leela: Only if they mean me harm or wish to take possession of me. So for most humans? Yes, fear me.

Me: I don’t think most humans mean you harm.

Leela: *laughs* So naïve.

Me: *shifts uncomfortably* Okay then, what would you do if someone tried to trap you and make you grant wishes?

Leela: Hmm…there are so many wonderful options. Taj likes turning humans into snakes and other creatures. Mira tends to blow things up. I suppose I’m not as messy, so I might trap them instead or just kill them. It depends on my mood.

Me: Consider us warned. What do you want out of life, Leela?

Leela: I want to be left alone as a free Djinni.

Me: Sounds simple enough. But alone?

Leela: If there is such a thing as real love, I’d be happy to experience it, but I doubt its existance. I loved once. That’s what got me into this mess.

Me: I may not be a magical genie—

Leela: Djinni

Me: Right. I may not be a magical Djinni, but I am an author and I’m going to promise you something. You may go through a LOT, but you will be satisfied with the ending of The Binding Stone. And whoever reads it will enjoy the journey with you.

Leela: If I don’t get my Happily Ever After I will come back and imprison you in a diamond.

Me:

Leela: *eyes glow*

Me: HEA it is!

"I thoroughly enjoyed THE BINDING STONE (The Djinn Book 1) by Lizzy Gayle. What a fun, fast-paced, page-turner of a book! Leela and Jered are compelling main characters, and the supporting cast of friends, allies, and enemies keeps the story fresh and interesting. The flashbacks to Leela's long and difficult past perfectly compliment the main storyline. I can't wait for Book 2!" -- Lisa Edmonds, Best-Selling Urban Fantasy Author of the Alice Worth Series

"A promising paranormal romance debut with intricate backstory, a fun cast of characters, and a trio of Djinn who’ll have you rooting for their freedom to pursue true happily ever after's. A magical gem that will have readers wishing for the next in the series." -- Luna Joya, Award-Winning Author of The Legacy Series

Excerpt:

After going a few more rounds with Mildred, and Mom threatening both of us to stop, I grabbed a snack tray from the kitchen like she told me to. When I went back to grab some cans of pop she said to me, “Make sure you get your boyfriend some milk. I’m sure he’d like some.”

“Mom. Will you can it with the cat talk?”

“Don’t roll your eyes at me young lady!” she said as I made my escape from the kitchen.

I don’t know what I was in such a hurry for. When I stepped back into the living room the tension in there was so palpable I thought I was going to have to go back in the kitchen and get a butcher knife to cut through it.

Millie sat over in the corner where she conveniently pretended to watch the tv, but in actuality she just watched Dad and Antonio do their level best to not look at each other. Upon closer inspection I saw that Dad was watching tv, and also glancing at Antonio out the corner of his eye. And I think he was growling at him; it was so low in his throat that I could have been mistaken. I don’t know if Antonio even payed any attention to what was on the screen, but his left leg shook so bad his entire body seemed to vibrate.

They jumped a little and looked guilty as sin of something when I dropped the tray down onto the table. None of them had even noticed me walk in, “Don’t everybody speak at once.” When I went to sit down on the couch closer to Antonio than Dad, Antonio put his arm around my shoulder, and yes, Dad growled, “Daddy, is there some reason you’re growling at my boyfriend? And what is that smell?” I hadn’t gotten a whiff of anything until just then. But there was an almost visible aroma coming from my dad that reminded me of my old medicine cabinet that my parents kept stocked year-round.

“I was not growling, must just have something caught in my throat.” Was Dad’s throaty, baritone reply. His was the kind of voice that sent chills up a kid’s spine and put fear in their heart when caught doing something bad growing up, trust me. “Hope it wasn’t a hairball.” Antonio choked out a small laugh at that. “That smell is all the Vick’s I got rubbed all in and around my nostrils and upper lip. I’m hoping that and all the pills your mother just shoved down my throat can curtail whatever has my allergies afflux.”

“And what on earth are you watching?” I finally looked up at the flatscreen hanging up over the fireplace mantle to see a bunch of tigers running in the wild. Since Dad was the one holding the remote at that point he must have been the one to pick out the show. But I don’t remember ever seeing him even glance at the Discovery Channel before. “Oh my God, what did he just do to that reindeer?”

“Oh, sweetie, we were just discussing how aggressive tigers are, so I decided to pull this up to prove my point.” Came Dad’s reply.

Which Antonio countered with, “We were also talking about the fact that a pack of wolves could be considered even more aggressive and unpredictable. Just so happened that this episode featured tigers and not wolves.”

Mildred bust out laughing in her chair. Before I could ask her what she found so funny, she jumped out of her seat saying, “I’ma go see if Mom needs any help with dinner.”

Cassandra Mercier died at the ripe old age of twenty-one and is now gainfully employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative...and she’s been working overtime.

“Cassie! Where ya been?” A dripping wet Fallon trotted around the pool toward me.
“A little R and R,” I lied to keep up the charade. I didn’t want to explain the atrocity that had become my life.
“Jelly!” She rolled her eyes. “How’d you get something like that, you’ve been gone forever?” She emphasized the forever in an exaggerated accent.
“I guess I was stressed,” I shrugged.
“You missed all the drama, girl.” Her eyes were as big as saucers, her lips pursed like a fish to emphasize all the crazy. It took everything in me not to roll my eyes.
“Fill me in.” I really didn’t want to know, but it was expected and I didn’t want to hurt Fallon’s feelings.
“Not while you’re wearing that,” she frowned at me. I looked down. I was in a thin shirt that was boxy and not flattering, the only thing under it was a sports bra and cotton panties with leggings. So much for inconspicuous. I looked like I had recently escaped a mental institution. I tapped my bra self-consciously; the two vials of liquid were still there.
To fit in, I manifested a bathing suit, and a tiny purse to hold my vials, then trailed after Fallon as she chatted her way to the pool.
“Persephone is finally gone, we have a new boss. Ohemgee, Cassie, he’s fucking hot, like hot hot, not like nerdy hot Brandon. Like my panties are tingly wet just thinking about him.” She squeezed my arm and I tried not to wince. “He’s not exactly receptive to any of us, though. Kind of scowly, and bossy. He yelled at me a few times.”
“Scowly?” I asked. She rolled her eyes and handed me a beer from the cooler next to the pool.
“Oh, and Trish and Otto are an item, like really an item, moved their shit into one house and stuff, calling themselves Trotto, or maybe Trito, I don’t know, but it’s weird. Em said she heard them fighting and hot new boss guy went over there to break it up. It was a mess.”
“Trish and Otto?” I asked stupidly. I couldn’t place an Otto.
“Yeah, they do make a cute couple,” Fallon sighed and glanced over at Trent who was sun bathing, even though he could tan with a thought. Fallon had been crushing on him for a while. Sensing eyes on him, Trent sat up, took his sunglasses off, and did the cool-guy-chin-jut-greeting thing.
“Hey Cassie! You’re back. Boss said you’d be back today. Well, he said the missing operative would be back today. Never said your name or anything, just that if we see 'the missing operative', to tell her to go to his office immediately because he’s tired of being fucking short-staffed…” Trent said in one breath.
“Yeah, I think I already have a case,” I responded despondently. I guess it made sense, considering I was supposed to be on some kind of weird Afterlife vacation for the last month. I really didn’t want another case though.
“Already, really girl?” Fallon rolled her eyes. “Whatevs, you’ve been off duty for like months. Wish.” I had the urge to tell her all about my off duty status. Maybe that would wipe that frown off her face, but I bit my tongue and kept it to myself.
“Months? It was that long for you guys too?” For some reason I thought it would only be that long for me.
“Yeah, you never came back from your last case. That was like, at least 3 months ago.” Fallon frowned at me. “We thought something happened, or you got promoted without them telling us. That would have sucked. They didn’t tell us shit. But it happens like that sometimes.”
“They said it was only a month or two,” I replied. “That’s what they told me.” Fallon shook her head and Trent looked skeptical.
“You were on R and R and you didn’t know how long it was? Where did you go? Antarctica?” Trent asked.
“Uh, no, just like a relaxing place in Afterlife.”
“I’ve never heard of an operative doing that.” Trent got up from his chair so he could grab a beer.
“I don’t like to be normal,” I shrugged and Fallon laughed a little harder than the joke required, like she was faking it or didn’t get the joke.
“Don’t worry. No one thinks you’re normal.” She laughed again loudly and I frowned, not sure if I should take it as a compliment or an insult.
