<3 Tristan Quotes/Teasers <3

“I’d like to say I love you and mean it. Only, that isn’t enough to describe what I feel for you… how much you mean to me, Elle.” “Water’s boring.” Elle traced a finger along my jaw, her passion-filled eyes trained on my lips. “I’m not looking for boring tonight.” The anticipation of wanting her jumped to fucking needing her as she rolled her hips into the pressure against my zipper. “What is it you’re looking for?” Elle bent forward, lips teasing mine, and whispered, “You.”

<3 Elle Quotes/Teasers <3

"I didn't think I could fall more in love with you, but you've proven me wrong, Tristan Wade Daniels. I love you.” His lips curved into a wide smile. "Say it again.” I stepped on my tiptoes and leaned in, my lips a breath away from touching his. I whispered, "I love the way my body craves more of you. I love the way your hands feel while touching me. I love the way your lips taste…” My eyes darted to his lips, and then back to his eyes. "I love how much you care. I don't just love you, but everything about you. I always have, Tristan. I always will.” He looked up and our gazes met. He was a beautiful mess, and I loved him so much, but the pain he created… well, I didn't think I'd recover.

6c3a6-newexcerpt

We didn't talk much during the drive back to our hometown, but words weren't necessary. The soft smile on Tristan's face as he drove with his left hand while holding mine in his right screamed louder than any words ever could. He was mine.

Turning to watch the scenery pass by, I let my thoughts drift back to the start of this year. At the beginning of the semester when Tristan told me about his engagement to Kellie, the psycho, I couldn't breathe from the disappointment crushing my chest. Topping that, he also divulged he'd transferred to Tech, making sure my life remained as miserable as possible. Even though I loved him, seeing Tristan with another woman tore me to pieces.

Before their relationship ended, thinking we'd ever find our way to one another seemed impossible. So, what did I do to get over my hot, football star, best friend? I dated someone completely opposite of Tristan… Eric Green, a handsome baseball player. Eric was super sweet, but at the end of the day he was never who I wanted.

I didn't intentionally set out to hurt anyone. The way I strung Eric along, knowing I was in love with someone else, left me feeling like a self-centered jerk. Ironically, when Tristan was injured, our relationship started to come together for us while Eric and I fell apart.

Who'd have thought a broken collarbone and a concussion would've made us get our heads removed from our asses. But God, the brunt trauma Tristan suffered was bad. Just thinking about it brought tears to my eyes. I shifted in my seat, removing myself from the past, looking forward to our future.

Peeking over at Tristan's profile, my chest tightened. The fact that he was able to pull off looking so incredibly sexy that early in the morning awed me. The gritty stubble shadowing his strong jawline and the way strands of hair framed his warm eyes quickened my pulse.

Tristan glanced my way and grinned. Lifting our hands, he brushed a feathery kiss across my skin. "What's got you so quiet, Spud?"

My knuckles tingled where his lips touched. "Oh, you."

His smile deepened. "Well, then carry on."

I fought to keep my eyes open during the rest of our drive. Tristan ran his finger along my cheek, the enamored glint in his eyes made my insides jump.

"You look tired. Get some sleep." Those perfect, full, kissable lips formed into a sexy, hell-bent grin. "You're going to need plenty of rest."

He tore his eyes away from me and back to the road. Sliding the back of his hand down my arm, he then laced our fingers together. "We're leaving after dinner tomorrow. We haven't finished making up for," he turned back to me and winked, "lost time yet." Tristan squeezed our hands, sending the normal thumping inside my chest into hyper-drive.

I stretched out the soreness from my arms and legs. After the early morning surprise in bed, we woke up and finished another round of lovemaking in the shower. Years of listening to Alyssa prattle on and on about her sexual escapades, I finally understood her, um, enthusiasm. Speaking of which, she was going to flip the next time I talked to her. Man, I missed our late night, or morning talks, although being with Tristan felt right. Perfect.
Tension pulled at the corners of his eyes.

I squeezed his hand. "Hey, what's wrong?" I balled my other hand, worry settling in my shoulders.

He brought our joined hands to his lips and kissed the inside of my wrist. "Nothing you need to worry about."

Um, I don't think so. I attempted to free my hand from his, but his hold remained strong. I gave up. "I can take it, whatever it is. Just spit it out." My stomached knotted, betraying the lie.

"I'm telling my parents about us." He glanced down, and the tension cornering his eyes moments ago fell. The side of his mouth pulled up in a cocky grin. "I'm almost hoping my dad kicks me out." He winked. "Then I'd have an excuse to stay with you."

I frowned and pulled my bottom lip between my teeth. Shit. His dad hated me. As much as I loved Tristan, I didn't want to be an added cause to their problems, especially since Tristan and his dad never got along in the first place.

I shook my head. "No, I don't want to ruin this. We're together so there's no use in creating a potential problem between you and your family. I love you, Tristan. I'm not going anywhere. Spend time with your parents and we can tell them about us once we're back at school."

Tristan gazed ahead, concentrating on the road in front of us. He remained silent for quite a few minutes, making me worry my bottom lip even more. Finally, he glanced over at me.

"No, I've waited to tell them you were mine for years now. No way am I going to pass up the first chance I get in order to make my dad happy."

I opened my mouth to argue, but he cut me off.

"I'm not playin', Spud." His eyes darkened and wrinkles crested his forehead.

Stubborn ass. "All right, fine. I'll leave my window unlocked," I grinned, raising a brow, "but only if you're lucky."

Tristan chuckled softly, resting our hands in his lap. With his attention back to the road, I closed my eyes and prayed nothing terrible would happen between him and his dad. I used to think Mrs. Daniels didn't approve of me, but after Tristan's stay in the hospital, her behavior had changed. She'd been nice. Maybe his dad would do the same.

My throat dried–this time from not knowing if I'd be able to see my sister, Heather, this year. Hopefully this Christmas would be different for both our families. Tristan and I were due for a little peace.

Losing the battle with my eyes, I ended up falling asleep the rest of our way home. Tristan reluctantly dropped me off at my mom's house. Once my bags were unloaded in my room, he kissed me. His kiss lingered, making my legs weak and my heart ache when the sweet embrace ended. Intensity and heat blazed in his eyes when he backed away.

Clearing his throat, he said, "I'm having a hard time leaving you."

No one is safe.

Secret McQueen thought she’d seen it all, but that was before she, Desmond and Holden came home to find New York City burning and the streets overwhelmed with the walking dead. Now, in a race against time, she must find out who is responsible for unleashing hell on Earth.

For that, she’s going to need a whole new team of vampire wardens to help round up the perpetrators, who turn out to be a gang that makes Sons of Anarchy look like toddlers on tricycles.

Her quest across the city brings old friends and enemies out of the woodwork and reminds Secret once and for all why mercy and forgiveness are not always prudent. Lives will be lost, sacrifices will be made, and when the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same again.

With no time to mourn her losses, the only question remaining is if Secret can survive long enough to stop the apocalypse…or if this is the one challenge that will finally drown her in rivers of undead blood.

Warning: The final book in the Secret McQueen series has it all: hot kisses, unexpected guests, and enough tear-jerking moments to require a whole box of tissues. You’ve been warned. (Goodreads)

I have been accused of being malicious and evil.
I, the Snow White Queen, have a story to tell.
The true story and what has really happened. How it all happened. Why the Brothers Grimm altered the truth, letting you think it was a fairy tale. When and how the tale took place. And above all, why I did what I did. Why you haven't been told the truth for centuries. The truth about me and the truth about the not-so-innocent Snow White.

Here is my side of the story. You will never look at Snow White the same way again. (Goodreads)

"Enjoying pain with your pleasure is something you either get, or you don't. If you get it, then you don't really need it explained, because you know how good it feels, and if you don't get it then no amount of talking is going to convince you it makes sense."

But sometimes you have to explain the unexplainable, especially if the love of your life needs to understand, or she'll leave you. Jason Schuyler is one of Anita Blake's best friends and favorite werewolves, with benefits. J.J. is his lady love, an old flame from childhood who dances at one of the top ballet companies in New York. She's accomplished, beautiful, and she's crazy about him, too. Neither of them wants to be monogamous, so what could go wrong?

J.J. is enthusiastically bisexual, with an emphasis on the female side of things. She plans to keep sleeping with women, because Jason can't meet that need, just like she can't meet Jason's need for rough sex and bondage. J.J. doesn't understand why Jason isn’t content to go elsewhere for a need she can’t fulfil, so Jason asks Anita to help him explain.

Anita is having her own relationship growing pains with her only female lover ever, Jade. Jason suggests that J.J. might be able to help Anita with her girl problem, while she helps him with his kinky explanations. With some encouragement from a few other lovers in Anita's life she reluctantly agrees, and J. J. makes plans to fly into town for an experience that none of them will ever forget. (Goodreads)

Reign of the Vampires Review

REIGN of the VAMPIRES by Rebekah R. Ganiere
The Society Book 1
Published November 17, 2014 by Kensington Publishing Corp
5 BLOOD AND BLAZING FANGS!

"While the idea may have been done before, the aspects in which it was written are quite original."

Synopsis -

She wants security. He wants freedom. Together their love could destroy the world.

Being the only female Vampire Lord in America isn't easy. Being thrust into the role of CEO is even harder. Danika Chekov refuses to let her father's legacy die. She’s resolved to keep everything under her tight control. But after she's almost killed, she’s forced to purchase a human guardian.

Mason is human, or so the Vampires think. He’s determined to protect his secret, but Lord Danika buys him before he can make his escape. Their passion for each other threatens everything they want most. And when Mason’s true nature is exposed, the results could be devastating. (Goodreads)

Review -

Set in a scene similar to that of the movie Daybreak with even more twists and turns that will have readers glued to the page and anxious to see what happens next. Reign of the Vampires is an Urban Fantasy novel that touches on the topics of prejudice, racism(specism), hatred and fear. Vampires are now the rulers of the world. Not only are humans almost at the point of extinction, but the majority that are left are nothing more than slaves. While most of them might be living quite comfortably, there is nothing like having your freedom.

Release Day Spotlight: Unleashed Poems

Author: Jennifer Raygoza
Title: Unleashed Poems
Genre: Poetry
Release Date: 11.13.14
Publishing House: Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly

Blurb:

"It’s not always easy to see the light when you’re surrounded by darkness. Sometimes you have to make your own way out of the hole."

A collection of 23 poems, all written in my youth. I wrote a majority of them when I was sixteen to seventeen years old. This was a really hard time in my life. It was a time of heartbreak, pain, love, betrayal, and more. Writing these poems was a dose of sanity when the world around me was corrupting. It was my outlet when I couldn't breathe, and my safety rope when I was drowning. We don't get to pick our story in life. Usually the story picks you. So, with this release I am hoping to show inspiration. You can survive, and you can move on from your dark place. I dedicate this book to all the youth out there going through any type of struggle.

My Top Five Favorite Vampire Books/Series

A Guest Post by Margo Bond Collins

  1. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black http://www.amazon.com/Coldest-Girl-Coldtown-Holly-Black-ebook/dp/B00BAXFB3C/
I loved Black’s short story of the same name and was initially a little disappointed to discover that the novel was not, in fact, a continuation of the same story but rather a new story set in the same world. But that disappointment quickly disappeared as Black’s novel drew me in. The vampires here are horrifying—and being the single (potential) exception to that rule makes the love-interest vampire equally terrifying and attractive, adding up to the kind of vicarious adrenaline rush that draws me to vampire tales in the first place.

  1. Sunshine by Robin McKinley http://www.amazon.com/Sunshine-Robin-McKinley/dp/0515138819/
I re-read this book every year or two—I just finished the latest re-reading in November. McKinley does a beautiful job of setting up a world that is almost, but not exactly, like our own. The eponymous protagonist almost seems to ramble sometimes, but the voice is perfectly her own and the things she reveals about herself are beautifully woven back into the plot. Also, the vampires are creepy as all get-out!

  1. Quiver by Holly Luhning http://www.amazon.com/Quiver-Holly-Luhning-ebook/dp/B005BTJUHE/
Unlike most of the books I read, Quiver is not speculative fiction. It’s a psychological thriller about obsession—specifically, obsession with Elizabeth Bathory, the psychotic sixteenth-century Hungarian countess who bathed in the blood of her (many!) victims in an attempt to make herself younger. Luhning’s depiction of a dissatisfied academic pulled further into a world of horror and intrigue is both compelling and unsettling. So this isn’t really a “vampire” novel in the strictest sense—but it draws on vampire mythology in interesting ways.

  1. Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Book 1) by Laurell K. Hamilton http://www.amazon.com/Guilty-Pleasures-Laurell-K-Hamilton-ebook/dp/B0030MTPU6/
This was probably the first book I ever heard called a “urban fantasy”—though the term Hamilton used for it was “paranormal mystery.” In the early novels of this series, Anita Blake, is based more on the gritty noir detective than the romance heroine. Though the series shifts toward the erotic later, the early novels are still among my favorite paranormal mysteries/urban fantasies.

  1. Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, Book 1) by Faith Hunter http://www.amazon.com/Skinwalker-Jane-Yellowrock-Book-1-ebook/dp/B002AU7MSG/
This series has landed on my favorite vampires and my favorite shapeshifters lists. I’m a fan of shapeshifter novels in general, and of this series in particular. I like Hunter’s twist on the shapeshifter standards—in these novels, Jane shares her body and her consciousness with a big cat she calls Beast. Watching the two of them negotiating their shared life is almost as much fun as watching them work through whatever mysteries and problems come their way because of Jane’s job as bodyguard to vampires.

The Shadows of Stormcylffe Hall Review

The Shadows of Stormclyffe Hall
By Lauren Smith
Published September 29, 2014 by Entangled Select
5 Haunted Stars!

"Gothic Romance at its' supernatural best."

Synopsis -

A thrilling gothic romance from Entangled’s Otherworld imprint…

To defeat a dark evil, they must face his family’s past…

Bastian Carlisle, the Earl of Weymouth, doesn’t believe in ghosts. Even though tragedy and mysterious hauntings have driven his family away from his ancestral home, Stormclyffe Hall, he is determined to restore the castle to its former glory. His plans are disrupted when a stubborn American shows up on his doorstep hoping to pry into his family’s tragic history.

Jane Seyton, an American graduate student, is convinced there’s more to the tragedy of Stormclyffe Hall than history claims. Ever the scholar, she is determined to discover the truth, even if it means putting up with the arrogant, yet sexy, Bastian.

Although Bastian wants nothing to do with the pushy American, it soon becomes clear that something evil is in the house—and that something is targeting both Jane and Bastian. The two must join forces to purge the ghosts of Stormclyffe Hall once and for all—even as they try to fight a physical attraction between them that grows more and more impossible to deny. (Goodreads)

Review -

Haunting's, tragic love affair, obsession, doomed love, all the makings of a great Gothic Romance that is sure to leave chills up and down the readers spines. Lauren Smith proves to be an amazing author with a talent to pull readers inside of her world, caring for her characters as deeply as they care for one another.

Doomed from the very beginning, due to a jealous rage of a witch gone mad, Bastien and Jane are being haunted with the memories of their ancestors. Though neither have ever met and are thousands of miles apart, their blood is calling them both to the shadowed estate of Stormeclyffe Hall.

Lucy has chosen to do her dissertation on the line of tragic deaths that seemingly every woman whom has dared to love a Earl of Weymouth has succumbed to. To do so, she must have something more solid than a few ghost stories. Which leads her across the seas to the infamous Stormclyffe, a place that sings to her blood and been the backdrop of her nightmares. As she comes closer to the truth of the manor, and her dreams, she also comes closer to her own demise.

Bastien Carlisle is bound and determined to see his Father's final wishes fulfilled, to reconstruct their families' home. Something that seems to be easier said than done. With workers who are too afraid to stay after dark, things breaking right after they have been fixed, it begins to look like an impossible task. Add on a stubborn American Scholar bound and determined to discover all of his family secrets, things seem even more desolate than impossible. But that little American is also awakening something that he had sworn to forever keep closed off, his heart. She is also awakening more than a few restless spirits. The more he is around her, the more he finds himself caring for her and the more he tries to stay away, gravity seems to pull them right back to each other. Which leaves him with but one choice; break a curse that he doesn't even believe in.

Its a race against time as Jane and Bastien try to "fix that which is broken", before its too late for them both. They must break a centuries old curse placed upon two ill fated lovers, who did nothing wrong other love the other.

Gothic Romance lovers will love this modern tale, as it also has more than a few scenes that flashback to days of old. Not a dull moment, nor a wasted page, The Shadows of Stormclyffe Hall is a true must read.

The Guardians III: Review and Spotlight

The Guardians III by Jennifer Raygoza
Published September 16, 2014 by Vamptasy Publishing
4 BLOODY FANGS!!

"Gionna is back, and things are more violent and bloody than ever."

Synopsis -

My name is Gianna Weston. I am Vampire. I was thrust into a world I didn’t know. Given a life I didn’t think I wanted. I have had my world turned upside down and my life shredded before me. All this time holding onto the love of a man who breathes life into me and I into him. His very existence sets fire to my cold skin. He is my maker, my husband and the father to my children. But even love can no longer fight the demons inside of me. Not after all the tragedies. The death, the pain, and the heartache are haunting me with a relentless vengeance. This darkness has me by its nails scraping sinfully at my core. It’s time to stop running and hiding from the darkness. These demons I speak of won’t let me rest until I accept what I am. A nightmare. A killer. A blood thirsty animal.

Are you afraid? You should be. I. AM. A. MONSTER.

Excerpt -

“Here is some food for thought. I think being sheltered down here has gotten things out of focus for all of you. So I suggest you make a strong mental note of what I’m about to say. You humans, are no longer at the top of the food chain. Look around. Tell me what you see. I’ll tell you what I see. I see lunch. Around here, you are considered fresh meat. You are walking, talking blood bags. You are simply our food supply. So, instead of worrying about your jobs, you should be petrified that you’re standing in a room with three vampires that could rip you to bloody shreds and sleep like a baby afterwards. If that’s not scary enough for you, outside is a more vicious species of us, and I guarantee this. They won’t bring you lovely folk’s coffee and pancakes with a fucking smile.” I looked around the room to see the shaken expression on everyone’s faces. I stared down at the floor, knowing I had offended every person in the room.

Originally it was a story written for fun, and out of curiosity was self-published. Little did she know that it would be a hit with vampire lovers. Fans encouraged her to write part two in the series. She was currently working on another project, but pushed it back to write part two to please the fans. The Guardians III: Blood Vengeance is the last and final installment in the Guardians Series.

Review -

Jennifer Raygoza made a very hard decision that every series author faces, how long should it last. Instead drawing things out The Guardians face their last page in this trilogy, and they go out with more than a few bloody fangs. But worry not fans, looks like an opening was left between the pages allowing the making of a possible spin-off.

Gionna has finally come to her breaking point: her only daughter is still missing. That in and of itself is enough to make the strongest of women go insane. Add on the role of being Vampire Queen, Wife, and Mother to a son missing his twin, you would probably become a little less wrapped around the hinges to. So anyone crossing her path at this time had better tread softly, or risk having their heart ripped out, literally. Oh, and did I fail to mention the fact of having to house her family and closest friends who would rather whine and complain than to just shut-up and stay safe. And a best-friend focused on her next conquest.

The thing I love most about Raygoza is that she keeps her characters real. Readers can see and feel the emotional that they are suffering through. And unlike some authors who have their characters jump in the sac just to please some of their fans, you won't find fill in sex here. What couple, human or vampire, could even think about sex when their child's life is on the line? And only they can save them.

All questions will be answered and new characters will be introduced; some to be of help, and some, well, let's just say they would probably get along with Adonis just fine. The long awaited battle between Guardians and Dark Angels finally takes place, and there may be casualties on both sides of the line. And the ending just may raise more than a few eyebrows.

This book is a true must read for all Guardian fans and should not be read as a stand alone.

Accidentally...Over? Review

Accidentally...Over? by Mimi Jean Pamflioff (ARC Review)
Accidentally Yours Book 5
Published August 26, 2014 by Forever Yours
4.75 BLOODY FANGS & CELESTIAL STARS!

"Well, the series that accidentally became one my favorites has come to an end, or has it?"

Review -

The time has come for Cimil to pay for all of her crimes. As she sits back and enjoys her incarceration the question remains, will she be enjoying a giant bowl of popcorn while watching the apocalypse begin, or still attempting to prevent it? Or planning a giant hoopla to celebrate it? Her victim of the day is Maax, though it turns out she has been using him for a very long time. Though now he may finally get his reward, after he jumps through a few more fiery hoops.

Cimil sends Max on one final mission; to go back in time to save the only person able to stop the Apocalypse. No problem right? Wrong. There are a few catches; 1) Death has its eyes set on this mystery woman. 2) He must save her in her own time, as a mortal. 3) She has to stay in her own time. Easy simple tasks, if she hadn't turned out to be his. And saving her life seems to be a tasks even harder to accomplish than evading the end of the world. Oh, and he's still invisible. So what's a god to do when faced with such enormous tasks set out by a sister who is one of the craziest beings alive and always has something up her sleeve?

Ashli Rosewood is beginning to think she has lost her ever loving mind. Not only does she keep dreaming of her own demise, but the being she believes to be the god of death. Only instead of fearing him she lusts after him. Ever since losing her parents Ashli has felt not only the guilt of surviving, but that Death was out to get her. So when Maax steps into her life, she is more than sure he is there to end hers. But if/when she decides that may not be what he after, her world is turned beyond upside down.

In this final ride of the Accidentally Yours Series just may blow a gasket from laughing so hard, and be watching the ground closely for banana peels. Every answer to every question will finally be answered, and the full extent to all of Cimil's plans will be revealed. And we finally learn what the hell Jess, Ann and Nichole are!!!! See, I waited so patiently, as I am sure all of you did as well. This is a must read for any and all who have read the series.  Those of you who haven't, what are you waiting for? Full of action, not toooo much drama, laughter, mayhem, love and a whole lot of fun. Sadly, there isn't that much bloodshed in this final book, and I really would have loved one more bloody battle with all of the gods battling it out with the Scabs and Obscuros. But all of the dark humor did indeed make up for that. This series is for all readers, regardless of gender, that love their humor dark, deadly and sinister. And completely unpredictable, a truly unique read, which is a rare find these days. One will not be able to say, 'didn't I just read this same thing happening in a different book?' Really, I haven't heard of many invisible deities who were made in invisible as a punishment to a crime that wasn't even really a crime who could travel through time and do other very manly deeds.

So fans of Krestley Cole, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Kerrelyn Sparks, be sure to make this series your next read. And when you do, be sure to pick up the entire series at once. When reading this series, readers will not want to stop until they get to the very end.

Betting on Julia Review

Betting on Julia by Nina Croft (ARC Review)
Melville Sisters Book 2
Published August 25, 2014 by Entangled: Covet
3.75 Claws

"In looking for what they both wanted, they find what it is they truly need."

Synopsis -

Small, blonde, bubbly, and with a penchant for all things pink, Julia Melville has always considered herself a nice girl – until she was attacked by a werewolf. Months later, and still in total denial, Julia spends the time between full moons fantasizing that her life is normal. And who could be better to help her with that than her new neighbor, handsome accountant, Sebastian Crane.

For two hundred years, Sebastian, a powerful warlock, has been possessed by a demon. Each day, his soul grows darker, and he knows that soon he will be beyond salvation. But the demon loves to gamble, and he’s made Bastian one final bet—get a good woman to say the words “I love you” and he’ll be free.

Julia wants a normal guy. Bastian needs a good woman. Maybe together they can find something far more valuable…redemption.

Review -

While not being my usual cup of tea, which I'm beginning to see has nothing do with the author (because Nina Croft definitely knows how to bring on the action, mayhem, violence and steam) but more to do with the publisher. Covet is more of a Paranormal Lite. For those readers who would like to try the waters of the Paranormal, but not quite ready to take that full plunge into the darkside. Though most authors fail to grasp what that truly means and write more of a Contemporary Romance where one of  the characters just happens to have fangs or a set of claws. Nina Croft manages to tone the nit, grit blood and gore without losing the full essence of the wolf.

That being said, I like my werewolves strong, dominant, fur flying trying to tear each others throats out, or fucking each others brains out with no compunction or worrying about hurt feelings, at least until they find their soul mates. Not quite the case here. I would not recommend this to die hard werewolf fans looking for that sense of pack life, danger, blood, history, gore and diabolical plots, but, as a good filler while waiting on that next book, like say, Book 4 of The Order or Blood Hunter series, it is a good read.

Bastien has made a bet against anyone in the Supernatural world knows you should not, a demon. But when the prize is his own freedom, to finally be rid of this demon, how he possibly say no. Especially when the task is so simple, "Get a good woman to say, 'I love you'". There is no such thing as simple when it comes to a demon. The woman in question turns out to be Julia Melville, a werewolf. If there is one faction of creatures Sebastien hates its werewolves, the vial beings who caused him to lose his family and the reason he has been stuck with a demon for two hundred years.

Julia has been bound and determined since her attack to pretend that it never even happened. Except for during her FMS, Full Moon Syndrome. Any time other than that Thing just doesn't even exist. Well, her mysterious next door neighbor is making it impossible to ignore Thing, at times making her volatile and others wagging her tail in utter content. Things become even more complicated with the attraction she feels brewing between the two of them, though neither are even looking for a relationship. As always though, what we're looking for is not always what we need. What she's looking for is normal, anything to help her forget what she really is now. Sebastien seems to just bring it to the surface. But is that necessarily a bad thing?

Fun, magical and with a little action thrown in for good measure, Betting on Julia is an enjoyable, wonderfully written, lite read. Though it did end with quite a few unanswered questions; what happened to Sebastiens' daughter, while his wife may have been mortal, his daughter did have his...genes. Those readers looking for a Paranormal Lite with werewolves, this is the perfect read for you.

Midnight Dawn Review

Midnight Dawn by Jocelyn Adams (ARC Review)
Mortal Machine Book 2
Published August 4, 2014 by Entangled Embrace
4 Galactic Stars

"Sometimes your soul knows exactly what it is you need, even if your mind has yet to realize it."

Synopsis -

A new adult title from Entangled’s Embrace imprint…

Her soul remembers his touch, even if she doesn’t.

With only three days until the wraith king turns the earth into an all-you-can-eat buffet, Addison Beckett is forced to enlist brooding sentinel Asher Green’s help to unlock the Mortal Machine. According to the founder, all she has to do is find the sanctuary—the same sanctuary she can’t remember because Asher erased her memories.

Trying to save humanity while navigating Asher’s lies is a royal pain. But the more time she and Asher spend together, the harder her soul tries to remind her what else he’s made her forget—that he loves her, wants her, needs her.

When she’s trapped by the wraith king and forced to pick who will stand by her in the coming battle, Addison is faced with an impossible choice: the sentinel she loves who refuses to love her back, or a powerful stranger who insists they’re meant to be together. Her decision will decide the fate of humanity, and once decided, can’t be undone.  (Goodreads)

Review -

Think The Mortal Instruments minus the incest and with a much more complex storyline. Adams brings a brand new world to the page, one that may have readers second guessing their beliefs.  And while Addison may still be viewing everything through lust-filled eyes, she has finally decided to be the Architect she was always meant to be.  Though a lot of her obsessive musings about a man who seemingly wants nothing to do with her, and does his best to drive him away at every turn, do distract from the story and will have readers wanting to slap the stupid out of her.  In the end it will be explained why she has such an infatuation with him, and it goes even deeper than the brief relationship they had in Book 1, Darkside Sun

Addison has no memories of her life before the Machine, which makes it that much easier for her to accept her role as the Architect.  Sadly, not many others trust her enough to follow her lead.  Trying to convince the other Guardians that she is there to help and rebuild the Machine will be an even bigger battle than facing the Wraith King.  Especially after she has killed Marcus, and tells them what she believes each and every one of them to do, have physical contact with one another.  After what happened with Taka's girlfriend decades ago, only a handful of people are willing to take that risk.  The problem is if they do not the Mortal Machine will never reach its true potential, nor will they have enough power to defeat the wraiths and save humanity.  Addison also must deal with the wholes in her memory.  She knows that she asked Asher to erase her past in order to protect her father, but there are even more wholes than there should be.  Memories from after she was already in the Machine, and echoes of those memories are haunting, and taunting her.

Asher has been plagued by what he believes to be premonitions of Addison's death.  So he has convinced himself that taking away her memories of the two of them together, of the love they shared, and staying away from her, he can prevent it.  What he fails to realize is the two of them together are much stronger than either of them are apart.  And when the Wraith King continues to call Addison by the name of Adaline, teasing that the two of them have no clue who they truly are, will he realize those premonitions just may be echoes of his own memories.

Enter a strange new Guardian who comes in just the nick of time to save the day.  One willing to go to any length to get Addison, and the Machine, whole and ready and at the apex of their potential.  Only question is, why is he so determined?  Why has he been exiled from the Machine all this time?  More importantly, do they have yet another trader in their mists?

Midnight Dawn is one of those can't-put-down-until-I-finish type of book, the kind where you tell yourself, 'Just one last chapter...'.  A true must read for PNR and Sci-Fi fans.  There is romance, but not so much that it exceeds the entire plot.  Just ignore some of her inner monologue.

EXCERPT

(From Chapter 7)

“I–” My cell phone rang, saving me the challenge of coming up with a plausible lie. I answered without checking the caller ID. “Hello?”

“Cassie, dear, how are you and my grandson getting along?” It was Abigail. I had the volume turned up loud enough that Evan could hear. His eyes widened, and he stepped closer. Too close, but I pretended the proximity didn’t affect me in the slightest.

“Abigail, where are you? What are you doing?”

“You know the answer to that question, Cassie. And as much as I’d love to give you and Evan a chance to work through more of your issues, I find I have a selfish last request.”

            My heart squeezed. “What?”

“I don’t want to die alone.” The words were a bare whisper, but both Evan and I heard.

            “Where are you?”

“At the overlook around back. Hurry.” The call ended.

“What did she mean?” Evan asked. “What do you know?”

I was already on my way out the front door, Evan right on my heals. To simplify matters, and to get to her as soon as possible, I decided to give him as much of the truth as I could. “She says someone has to die, and if it’s not her, then it’s going to be your parents.”

“What? When did she say that?”

“In snatches for a week, but most of it earlier tonight, right before I came over.” I was out the door now, heading around back up the paved path wide enough for Abigail’s wheelchair to navigate.

To my immense relief, Evan didn’t question me further. He followed me for a few paces, then rushed ahead, moving too quickly for me to keep up even when I broke into a run.

She had her chair parked at the top of the hill, overlooking the lake below and a spectacular sunset above. Either I had never seen colors so vibrant before, or I had never paid proper attention. It was as if the heavens were saying farewell.

My father was nowhere in sight. I had half expected to see him there, and managed a sigh of relief when I didn’t. It was short lived, though.

Evan knelt in front of his grandmother, holding her right hand in his. When I arrived, I sank to the paved earth at her other side, taking her left hand in mine. The skin was papery thin and so frail I feared it would flake away.

“Thank you.” She didn’t look at either one of us, and her voice was whisper-thin.

“You don’t have to die,” Evan said. “There has to be another way out. How are you going to die?”

“I-I don’t know. I can’t see past my own death. It’s made things... difficult these past few months.”

“Then how do you know you’re doing the right thing?” I asked. Demanded might be a better word. “How do you know your death will prevent anything?”

“I didn’t have long to live anyway. My heart is weak, and.... I don’t want to talk about it. Please. I don’t have long. Talk to me about something nice.” There was a hitch in her voice that told me no matter how she had prepared for this moment, she wasn’t ready to die. That realization, more than anything else, brought the first tears to my eyes.

“Don’t cry for me. I’ll be all right. My husband’s been gone these many years now, and I’ve been alone.”

I felt Evan’s free hand take mine, and I didn’t even think about yanking it away. For once, his touch didn’t feel anything except comforting. He needed it. I needed it. And so it was.

“Did you like my invitations?” Abigail asked.

“Why did you send them?” Evan asked.

“I don’t suppose you two would consider it a dying woman’s last request?” she asked.

            “Nice try,” I said.

Evan didn’t say anything, although I became more aware of his hand holding mine.

“Seriously,” Abigail said, “will you at least talk to one another? Really talk?”

I closed my eyes, swallowed hard, and nodded. The request was at least as manipulative as the first because she knew I couldn’t deny this one. It was too reasonable.

            “Good.” She squeezed my hand.

            That’s when her house exploded.
