Marked Review

Marked by Rebecca Zanetti
Dark Protectors Book 7
Published December 22, 2014 by Lyrical Press
5 Demonic Fangs!!

"The highly anticipated story of Zane, Janie and Kalin was well worth its weight in blood.'

Synopsis -

Janie Kayrs has known Zane almost her whole life. He was her friend in the dream world. She trusted him. But that was before he kidnapped her, spiriting her away to an isolated cabin to learn what her dreams never told her. Like how dangerous he looks. How he got on the wrong side of the negotiating table. And how much sexier he is in real life…

Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he’s worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice… (Goodreads)

Review -

A love story that began and has been building heavily since the beginning of the Dark Protectors series finally comes to a head. Janet, Kalin and Zane are children no longer and decisions need to be made, as well as sacrifices. The build up of this relationship has been deep and intense. When the three finally meet within the flesh outside of their safe dream world, sparks, fists, heat and blood will fly.

Janie always knew the one she would choose to be with, having felt a deep love for Zane from the very moment he stepped into her dreams. Kalin always a dark mystery whom she considered a friend, also knowing as she grew older his feelings for her went beyond the realm of friendship. Though Janie would never say the Kurjan truly loved her, seeing the murderous psycho her grew up to be there's no way he possibly even begin to understand such an emotion. Janie also knew that though she loved Zane, their love may not stand a chance one the prophecy she was to fulfill came to fruition. Which was much easier to accept before she had him by her side and their love morphed into something consuming both their hearts and souls. To end the war and bring peace she is willing to give up her own life, but not him or her family. But, when you have psychotic enemies determined to bring entire races down to the brink of extinction, and the patience that comes with immortality, losing most everyone she loves becomes almost inevitable.

Zane has been a mystery to the entire Karys family, including his Janie Belle. They all knew he was part vampire, but when he enters the peace talks behind his uncle, the shock of his genetics just may be enough to start a secondary war. Upon learning who he truly is inside and out, however, they discover he is more ally than enemy. A boy turned killer, Zane has been sacrificing everything just to keep his family safe. But when asked to sacrifice the one woman he has ever loved other than his mother, his uncle sets in motion a series of events that will lead to only one outcome, either Zane or his uncle must die.

Rebecca Zanetti truly delivers in the highly anticipated Marked. Readers will be more than pleased in how the story turns out, and will shed more than a few tears due to laughter, and heartache. Action packed from the very beginning, a bumpy ride sure to please all Dark Protectors' fans. Marked will answer both questions asked and unasked, as well as giving updates on all of the couples fans have come to love, and a conclusion safely ends this chapter within the Realm and begins a new one with the next generation of vampires, shifters, witches, demons and so much more. This entire series' is a must read for all paranormal lovers who need heat, lust, love, blood and gore.

Act of Mercy Review

Act of Mercy by Mandy M. Roth
Psi Ops Book 1
Published March 3, 2014 by Raven Books
5 Earth Shattering Growls!!

"Every orphans dream is to have a family, sometimes they end up with more than they bargained for."

Synopsis -

PSI-Ops Series is a spin-off series to the Immortal Ops World.

Paranormal Security and Intelligence Operative Duke Marlow has a new mission: find, interrogate and eliminate the target—Mercy Deluca. She’s more than he bargained for and Intel has it all wrong. She’s not the enemy. Far from it. Intel forgot to mention one vital piece of information—she’s Duke’s mate. And this immortal alpha werewolf doesn’t take kindly to her being in danger.

Review -

Once readers pick this book up they will not be able to put it down until the very end. Non-stop action from one page to the next that will leave you questioning the advances that have been made in the name of science, and just how far some may be wiling to go to further it along even more.

Dr. Mercy Deluca has never had much of a social life nor any type of real family. Hopping along from one foster home after the next growing up, the only thing she always had to rely up was her intelligence. So when she is offered a job within The Corporation, a biometric engineering research facility looking for ways to improve humanity, she's more than excited when offered an important role within their establishment. Not learning that the true nature of their research was by far anything but humane. In way too deep to simply just walk away, she puts in a call for help bringing down The Corporation. Problem is, the person who answers only offers to her is help with some anal probing.

Duke Marlow hates pretty much everything this day and age has to offer; the technology of it and airplanes most of all. Everything that is besides his job and his brothers-in-arms. But one phone call, or rather several irritating small ones, will turn his world upside down. One of his brothers, a werewolf named James, has been off the grid for a decade now. When intel comes in that is so encrypted their own techs can just barely decipher it, one part of the message comes through very loud and clear, James is being held captive. Duke and all of the other shifters know all to well what that usually means, he is being tortured. One vital piece of the intel also leaves them questioning the whether the sender is friend or foe. Duke's instincts tell him it is the latter, a feeling he must hold onto because his is screaming, MINE.

Mandy M. Roth creates a picture like quality within the minds eye. Every page is filled with wit and humor that will have readers laughing so loud anyone around them will be thinking they have lost their minds, fun, love, violence, diabolical masterminds, characters to captivate the readers heart and deeply heated love scenes that will leave steam coming off the page. A must read for any Paranormal Romance lover who loves the heat as well as the action.

4 Bloody Fangs
Review:

Marissa Clarke will sink her fangs into readers from page one and keep latched on until the very last page. Fast paced, action packed read with plenty of characters to love and ones readers will love to hate.

All Elena Acros wanted to do was grab a candy bar to regulate her sugar. What she gets instead is her life turned upside down and thrust into a world she could never have even imagined existed, but apparently was born a part of. A world consisting of every mythical faction ever though of, and some never even imagined. As if that isn't a shock enough to her system, there is also a very large bounty on her head. And the egocentric, overbearing, control freak of a Slayer charged with the task of taking her life has also taken over her libido. Though the fact that he continues to drag her around like a puppy dog while he decides on if he should, she has a couple tricks up her own sleeve to in order to cut the leash.'

Nikolai has had one goal for the past fifteen years, avenge his father. So when he is assigned the task to take out his killers offspring, he is more than up for it. Only when he gets up close and personal, he realizes there is much more to her than what he was led to believe. The he now must answer is not only what exactly she is, but what was the true reason her execution was ordered. Nik ends up being in a race against time because the prophecy embedded on his flesh is also on hers.

Love Me to Death is much more than just a Paranormal Romance, it is an intriguing tail that lovers of the Supernatural are sure to eat up. With a heroine who doesn't just sit around and mope when she learns her fate and what she truly is, but embraces that power and faces it head on. While it may not be a complete mystery of whodunnit, learning all the players that took part and learning which characters are what they seem to be is a highly entertaining thrill ride. One can't go wrong with a muumuu that purrs, literally.

Mason is human, or so the Vampires think. He’s determined to protect his secret, but Lord Danika buys him before he can make his escape. Their passion for each other threatens everything they want most. And when Mason’s true nature is exposed, the results could be devastating. (Goodreads)

Review -

Set in a scene similar to that of the movie Daybreak with even more twists and turns that will have readers glued to the page and anxious to see what happens next. Reign of the Vampires is an Urban Fantasy novel that touches on the topics of prejudice, racism(specism), hatred and fear. Vampires are now the rulers of the world. Not only are humans almost at the point of extinction, but the majority that are left are nothing more than slaves. While most of them might be living quite comfortably, there is nothing like having your freedom.

Deceptions Review

Deceptions by Sean Hayden
DemonKin Book 2
Re-Published October 21, 2014 by Untold Press
4.5 Demonic Fangs

"When finally meeting your proverbial parent, the last thing you expect to hear is, 'Would you do me a favor and kill yourself now?'"

Synopsis -

The great State of California has elected themselves a new governor…and he’s a vampire! Many hope it will bring some peace between the humans and vampires. Ashlyn may be Governor Greer’s only hope, but can she keep him alive without starting a war of her own? When the lines begin to blur and it becomes difficult to separate her enemies from her allies, Ashlyn may end up doing just that. (Goodreads)

Review -

Seeing as how the great citizens did vote Arnold Schwarqenager for governor of their lovely state, it really isn't that far a stretch to believe they would also elect a vampire. Though electing the terminator was a lot less detrimental to their health than Governor Greer, a very ancient vampire. And while the humans may have been eager to have him in a ruling position over them, the vampires may not share those feelings. A fact made clear after several attempts on his life. Since human guards and agents alike seem to have quite a it of a hard time staying alive while attempting to protect him, who better to call in than the one agent they have that seems practically indestructible? Problem with that is by the end of things, Ashlyn may be more than ready to either let the would-be assassins have at him, or just do the job herself.

Ashlyn's life has been in a huge upheaval ever since losing her aunt. Not only has she been forced out into a world she knows virtually nothing about, but she is still struggling to find exactly what she is. She seems to stand out in a whole new vampire classification all on her own and been named the Verminator, as she is a predator of predators. Not sure how she truly feels about being an FBI agent she continues on as one since she really doesn't know anything else, nor anyone, besides Marcel; who insists Ashlyn learn vampire etiquette before she gets herself killed from sheer ignorance of their world. Having already lost one partner, Ashlyn is bound and determined not to lose another. But with this assignment that is a task that seems like mission impossible.

Ashlyn also meets a couple her relatives, one in which shows her a glimpse into the past and introduces her, so to speak, to dear old dad. Not sure if what she has seen is reality, Ashlyn is more than happy to live in the land of denial. Until she another rather unfriendly character that calls her 'cousin', and there are quite a few resemblances that she cannot overlook.

Fast paced action from beginning to end, and a surprising conclusion that will have readers eyes bucking out of their heads. Usually in most mysteries, the reader comes to the conclusion long before the hero/heroine, not the case here. The realization hits right at the same moment it does for Ashlyn. Full of violence, mayhem, more than a little comic relief and a tear jerking end, all true vampire lovers will gladly sink their fangs into this one and latch on until they have drained every last word dry. Deceptions and the Demonkin series as a whole is a true must read.

Angel Bait Review

Angel Bait by Tricia Skinner
Angel Assassins Book 0.5
Re-Published October 31, 2014 by Rowan Publishing
5 Celestial Stars!

"Skinner has given new meaning to the phrase 'The Sins of the father shall be paid through the son.'"

Synopsis:

He's not that kind of angel.

Jarrid is a “Bound One”: half angel, half human, trained from childhood to enforce Heaven’s laws on earth. An assassin with no remorse. And no choice. When he discovers an ancient ritual called Ascension, which might give him a shot at freedom, he can’t resist his lifelong dream. He only needs to find one last Renegade angel and take him down…using a certain woman to flush the angel out of hiding.

She's not what he's expecting.

News reporter Ionie Gifford has no clue an outlaw angel wants her dead, much less why, but she does know one thing: the enigmatic Jarrid, with his penetrating silver eyes and his worship-worthy body, is her ticket to the city's supernatural underworld, where she might finally be able to locate her mother's killer. For that kind of information, she's willing to risk everything...

They can't be together -- but can't keep apart...

Blindsided by Ionie's beauty and tenacity, Jarrid finds the millennia-old glacier around his heart melting. But when he's faced with a choice, will he sacrifice Ionie for freedom from his brutal servitude—or agree to be bound for eternity, to protect the life of the woman he's falling in love with?

From novelist Tricia Skinner comes a story that will have fans of action-packed love stories applauding. Seamlessly combining elements of paranormal romance and gritty urban fantasy, the Angel Assassins series is a heart-pounding spin on angel mythology. (Goodreads)

Review:

Being re-published on Halloween, what better way to unwind after peeling kids out of costumes, washing off layers of face-paint and dealing with kids bouncing off the walls with sugar highs than curling up with a fun, short, bloody supernatural read that puts a whole new twist in the Fallen Angel genre?

Many who have read Angle Kin without having had the benefit of reading Angel Bait may have wondered who the mysterious Ionie was, and just how she became an honorary member of the team, or more appropriately, what. Turns out her ties run deeper than her relationship with Jarid.

Referred to by the Others as a Scribe, reporter Ionie Gifford has always been bound and determined to find her mother's killer.  So when she finds one of the infamous Bound standing in her boss' office needing her help she believes its the answer to her prayers, and strikes a deal in her favor. But she is far from naive and is also determined to discover the real reason Angels, half or not, would need to seek her out of all people. When she learns the truth it may shatter more than her heart.

After being saved from an imminent death, Jarrid and his brothers learn the hard way at a very tender young age, they were saved only to serve. Years of servitude, belittlement, disrespect and punishment, has lead to the teams utter hatred of Angel kind. When Jarid learns a piece of information that could lead to The Bound's freedom he sets up what he feels is a concrete plan. What he hadn't planned on was falling in love with the bait.

In exquisite detail Tricia Skinner shows the city of Detroit in a whole new light. One in which the murder count is still high but far beyond just random. Angel Bait sheds more light on the history of the Bound Ones, their punishment and the Directorate that sees them as nothing more than abominations that should not be allowed to live. I highly recommend this book to both lovers of Urban Fantasy and Fallen Angels, but only to those who are not the faint of heart. More than a little bit of blood, violence, loyalty and love, Angel Bait is one of those prequels that should not be skipped.

Review -

The perfect blend of science fiction, paranormal and romance, and enjoyable by any gender. The greatest books are the ones that make readers stop and think, what if? Nina Croft proves with each book in this series that she truly understands that concept. Creating a world after the earth has been destroyed, and showing that mankind still lives on, and survival of the fittest still applies.

High Priestess Alexia the entirety of her life living under the rule of others. While being doted upon hand and foot, she was also sequestered to a glamorous life of servitude. Told what to wear, how to talk, how to behave, more importantly, how to think. When she finally sees the opportunity to break free, even if only for a short while, she jumps on it, or rather in. Taken in by the Captain of El Cazador Alexia assumes a new role in life, as well as a new gender becoming Al the cabin boy. But good things must come to an end, as Al learns with bitter clarity as the Church learns of her whereabouts and demand her return.

An alpha werewolf without a pack to protect can be a very dangerous thing. Jon cannot forgive himself for the events that tore his pack apart. Becoming a lone wolf and an assassin seemed the only solution for him. But the moment he meets the "cabin boy" his world is turned on its axis as every instinct he has comes back online, no matter how much he tries to fight the pull. The wolf and the man may want the same thing, but the man is determined to resist.

One determined to live a full life in a short time, the other still running from the life he once lead. Together they can either be each others downfall, or salvation.

Full of non-stop action from beginning to end, plus a bonus scene at the end, the Blood Hunter series is a true must read. Both male and female lovers of sci-fi and paranormal alike will enjoy this read. Characters to love, characters to hate and characters to make you laugh. Not for the squeamish or faint of heart as there is violence, bloodshed and steamy, hot sex that will have you reaching for your lover and making them very happy. This is a re-publish, so for those who have already read it, here's your chance for an actual paperback, so that you may have both Jon and Rico right at your fingertips.

Protecting His Witch Review

Protecting His Witch by Zoe Forward
Keepers of the Veil Book 1
Published October 27, 2014 by Entangled: Covet
4 Magical Stars

"Sometimes Fate can be a truly fickle bitch indeed, but she also knows what you need as opposed to what you want."

Synopsis -

A paranormal category romance from Entangled's Covet imprint...

The last thing he wanted was to fall for a witch...

Veterinarian Kat Ramsey hasn't a clue that she's a witch. Sure, she can read minds, and there's the whole "dimension-hopping" issue that she can't quite control, but Kat is determined to keep things normal. That is, until she accidentally hops into the Otherworld, and runs smack into Matthew Ryan―the seriously hot one-night stand from years ago who shoved her out of his dorm. Naked.

And there's the tiny matter of the curse she gave him.

May you never find satisfaction with another woman. Billionaire and former druid Matthew Ryan hasn't forgotten the curse, or the witch who gave it to him. Kat's unexpected return means the curse will finally be broken. Unfortunately, his libido has other ideas―like how to get her back into his bed one last time. But far more worrying is his suspicion that Kat is the seventh Pleiades witch. Because while he's turned his back on his druidic ways, he's still bound to protect the woman who made his life hell... (Goodreads)

Review -

When reading the first couple of pages of this book readers may be a little misled, believing this to be no more than a silly romance with a little magic thrown in here and there to call it a Paranormal. They will learn that they couldn't have been farther from the truth. Protecting His Witch is full of action, dimension hopping, mind bending, revelation reaching, Fate ditching, tragedy bearing and yes, a lot of romance, but not the please hand me a barf bag kind.

Kat Ramsey has spent the majority of her life wondering if she truly had magical abilities, or if she was just out of her ever loving mind. Even though she has evidence that she truly does, where, why and how are questions that plague her to no end. Orphaned at a very young age, she has no memories of her biological parents, and no other family to turn to for answers. That she knows of. So, it stands to reason that when Kat meets someone she suspects has their own bit of magic, she would jump at the chance to ask questions about who and/or what she may be. If only that person wasn't the same cheating S.O.B. that put her out of his dorm with nothing more than a sheet.

Matthew Ryan walked away from his Druid life, and has had no desire to walk back into their world under any circumstances. Not that he Matt has any time for anything other than running the "family" business that was thrust upon him after the death of his Step-Father. A job that gives him no satisfaction yet no-one in his circles seem to notice, except a beautiful woman who seems to keep popping into his life when he least expects it. A woman in which placed a curse on him rendering him unable to reach complete satisfaction with anyone other than her. After-all, that would have to be the only reason he finds himself lusting after her at every turn, and wanting her even outside of his bedroom. Surely not fate, right?

Two lovers who cross paths when neither expects it, but when they both truly need it. One trying to escape their fate, the other trying to put the puzzle of her life together. What neither were looking for was love. Whether or not they become emotionally entangled or not, the very fate of the world is depending on them at the very least, working together. If Katherine cannot come to terms with what she is, and fast, her ancestors will begin Armageddon, as promised. Now, all that needs to be done is to get her to stop shifting between dimensions, tell of her true heritage, keep assassins from killing her and stop trying to screw her brains out, not too much on Matt's plate.

Protecting His Witch is a fun, magical read. Not a lot of blood and gore, but plenty of emotion and action. Readers will be kept on their toes from beginning to end.

The Unholy Review

The Unholy by Paul DeBlassie III
Published August 1, 2013 by Sunstone Press
4 Ritualistic Stars

"A tale so gripping it will have any Zealot daring enough to read questioning their very beliefs."

Synopsis -

A young curandera, a medicine woman, intent on uncovering the secrets of her past is forced into a life-and-death battle against an evil Archbishop. Set in the mystic land of Aztlan, "The Unholy" is a novel of destiny as healer and slayer. Native lore of dreams and visions, shape changing, and natural magic work to spin a neo-gothic web in which sadness and mystery lure the unsuspecting into a twilight realm of discovery and decision.

PAUL DeBLASSIE III, PhD, is a psychologist and writer living in his native New Mexico. A member of the Depth Psychology Alliance, the Transpersonal Psychology Association, and the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, he has for over thirty years treated survivors of the dark side of religion. (Goodreads)

Review -

While this book is not exactly for everyone, more of a love or hate it, I loved it. Fans of neo-Gothic tales, as well as fans of real history mixed in with fantasy, are sure to enjoy this read. The Unholy is a novel that describes in gruesome detail just how people are willing to go in the name of religion. Where people are more cultists than merely church-goers, believing with their entirety that as long as they are acting in the name of God, what they are doing is right, including murder.

Claire Sanchez is the last of her line of medicine women. Having witnessed her mother's brutal murder at the tender age of five, she is less than willing to pick up the staff and take her place. As always with fate, she will eventually learn that she has no choice. Though it will take a trail of bodies to convince of this. Turns out the past isn't something that can always be buried.

The town know as Ecclesia Dei would give even the Manson Family a run for their money. Convinced beyond a shadow of doubt the pathway to Heaven lies upon the backside of Archbishop Anarch. The wealthy have learned to give him his tithe no matter what exorbitant amount it may be. For to not do so would lead their souls to eternal damnation, after an untimely death. The less fortunate give whatever asked of them, and do as they are told, or they may also suffer the same fate. With followers worshiping him, and the hand of who he believes is God upon his shoulder, Anarch thinks he is above reproach, even a sin is not a sin if he is the one committing it. But there is one person who stands in his way and plans on crushing her like an ant.

Ritualistic killings, cultists to the extreme, zealots at their worst and only a handful of people willing to stand up to them. Though I wish there had been more Paranormal at work; more powers shown and explored by the Medicine women, The Unholy was truly a great read. Showing how the most self-righteous are usually the biggest sinners of all.

Bewitching The Enemy Review

Bewitching The Enemy by Dawn Chartier
A Vieux Carre Witch Sister Novel
Published October 27, 2014
4 Magical Stars

"Some secrets should not be kept."

Synopsis -

A paranormal category romance from Entangled's Covet imprint...

Rebuilding New Orleans...one witch at a time

Contractor Storm Morgeaux is trying to keep her business afloat and not sleep with the hot-'n'-sexy new client, Dr. Nathan Davis. Adding to her troubles is the fact she accidentally released a series of dark spells. Now evil warlocks are after her family, and she has no idea who she can trust.

Nathan's biggest concern is getting his pediatric surgery center up and running. Still, his stunning new contractor provides plenty of distraction―until she sets off his Paladin medallion. A warlock is near. Nathan's first responsibility is eliminating the woman who wields new and dangerous magic. But something about Storm calls to him. She's mysterious, sexy, and downright irresistible, but most surprisingly, his.

Without the spells, Storm must learn to trust her new abilities. But can she trust the man who's torn between loving her...and killing her? (Goodreads)

Review -

Welcome to New Orleans, the largest hot-spot for activity in the Paranormal world. Dawn Chartier has created a world in which readers will be stuck until the get to the end. A group of sisters who knew nothing of their families' past are about to find out the hard way that they have magic in their very blood. Problem? By not knowing the power they have locked away inside may not only be their downfall but very likely could get them all killed.

Storm Morgeaux thinks she has more than enough on her plate trying to maintain her families business, without letting on to them just how bad things have gotten. So when her Mother demands she be right on time to say a prayer in front of her Grandma's portrait, Storm figures it'll be no big deal if she's a few minutes late. That is until she walks in to see they have begun without her and her Mother goes limp on the floor. What happens next changes their world entirely and has them all questioning everything they though they knew.

Dr. Nathan Davis is a surgeon by day and a Warlock hunter by night. One with a heart of gold. He has intentions on building multiple Pediatric Centers along New Orleans, if he can get his Paladin medallion to stop going haywire anytime he gets near the contractor he's hired to do the job. He can't explain why it seems to be working one minute and going completely haywire the next, or why he can't seem to keep his hands off of the blazing red head that seems to be causing its circuits, and his, to be going nuts. Now he just needs to figure out if she is in danger or if the danger is her.

Bewitching the Enemy is a Paranormal Lite with a healthy dose of both Paranormal and Romance. Full of humor, characters readers will instantly fall in love with, words that seem to flow from the page and more than a few lessons on why keeping secrets isn't always a good thing. The only thing I wish was that the sisters' powers were explored a little more. But, I have it on good authority that Book 2 will be even more explosive in the magical department.

Once again Nina Croft has delivered a great story and leaves readers anticipating more. From page one, the action begins and doesn't let up until the very end. Readers will board the El Cazador de Sangre and fall in love with every member of the crew. Each different from the other in way more than just looks alone. Some genetically mutating from birth, others whom started life as human and became something more dangerous and deadly, others well, readers will just have to stay tuned to find out. As this is a re-published series, the entire series is out there available to be read, but I do believe this is its' first time in paperback. So fans whom have already read the series, here is your chance to feel the pages between your fingers of the sexy predetor that any woman would love to take home and keep in their bed, Ricardo Sanchez.

The Collective, a group of humans whom have taken the Meridian treatment, and the ruling class of the Universe. Skylar has been a member of the Corps, a militant sect of that group, for the past two hundred years. Centuries in which she has been mentally connected to the whole of the group, following orders unquestioningly, barely able to even recognize what emotions are her own. So when her Colonel offers her a mission in which she will be on her own, both physically and mentally, she all but jumps at the chance. After-all, what is asked of her should be fairly easy; hire a crew to help her break out an inmate in spaces form of Alcatraz, then betray that crew once all is said and done. Only problem is, whenever something seems to good to be true it usually is, and that is definitely the case here. As she comes closer to her end game, she also becomes closer to the crew, especially one very hot, stubborn vampire, Rico. Now she must ask herself, is she willing to betray them and leave them to their fate?

As a fifteen-hundred year old vampire there isn't much in life that Ricardo Sanchez has not done, besides being a cowboy. What he has never encountered was a woman much like Skylar Rosario; spunky, tenacious, confident, strong, intelligent and most importantly, not easily intimidated. But he knows she is hiding something, something that could put the lives of the entire crew at risk. While he hasn't made many attachments with most of the members, he considers Tanis a true friend, and that is not a word he takes lightly. But the temptation of getting closer to Skylar, a chance to accomplish a task that no one else ever has, and  enough money for Tanis to get her Meridian treatment is just too great for him to turn down. Will he beat Skylar at her own game, or will he end up losing everything in the end?

Full of action, suspense and a story that will keep readers guessing to the end. This is a must read for Sci-Fi fans of any gender, but only the non-squeamish type. Paranormal lovers not quite into science fiction may still enjoy it, though just not as much. Only thing I wish were that there had been more details on what happened to planet Earth, as there was in Book 3. All in all, a very good read.

The Shadows of Stormcylffe Hall Review

The Shadows of Stormclyffe Hall
By Lauren Smith
Published September 29, 2014 by Entangled Select
5 Haunted Stars!

"Gothic Romance at its' supernatural best."

Synopsis -

A thrilling gothic romance from Entangled’s Otherworld imprint…

To defeat a dark evil, they must face his family’s past…

Bastian Carlisle, the Earl of Weymouth, doesn’t believe in ghosts. Even though tragedy and mysterious hauntings have driven his family away from his ancestral home, Stormclyffe Hall, he is determined to restore the castle to its former glory. His plans are disrupted when a stubborn American shows up on his doorstep hoping to pry into his family’s tragic history.

Jane Seyton, an American graduate student, is convinced there’s more to the tragedy of Stormclyffe Hall than history claims. Ever the scholar, she is determined to discover the truth, even if it means putting up with the arrogant, yet sexy, Bastian.

Although Bastian wants nothing to do with the pushy American, it soon becomes clear that something evil is in the house—and that something is targeting both Jane and Bastian. The two must join forces to purge the ghosts of Stormclyffe Hall once and for all—even as they try to fight a physical attraction between them that grows more and more impossible to deny. (Goodreads)

Review -

Haunting's, tragic love affair, obsession, doomed love, all the makings of a great Gothic Romance that is sure to leave chills up and down the readers spines. Lauren Smith proves to be an amazing author with a talent to pull readers inside of her world, caring for her characters as deeply as they care for one another.

Doomed from the very beginning, due to a jealous rage of a witch gone mad, Bastien and Jane are being haunted with the memories of their ancestors. Though neither have ever met and are thousands of miles apart, their blood is calling them both to the shadowed estate of Stormeclyffe Hall.

Lucy has chosen to do her dissertation on the line of tragic deaths that seemingly every woman whom has dared to love a Earl of Weymouth has succumbed to. To do so, she must have something more solid than a few ghost stories. Which leads her across the seas to the infamous Stormclyffe, a place that sings to her blood and been the backdrop of her nightmares. As she comes closer to the truth of the manor, and her dreams, she also comes closer to her own demise.

Bastien Carlisle is bound and determined to see his Father's final wishes fulfilled, to reconstruct their families' home. Something that seems to be easier said than done. With workers who are too afraid to stay after dark, things breaking right after they have been fixed, it begins to look like an impossible task. Add on a stubborn American Scholar bound and determined to discover all of his family secrets, things seem even more desolate than impossible. But that little American is also awakening something that he had sworn to forever keep closed off, his heart. She is also awakening more than a few restless spirits. The more he is around her, the more he finds himself caring for her and the more he tries to stay away, gravity seems to pull them right back to each other. Which leaves him with but one choice; break a curse that he doesn't even believe in.

Its a race against time as Jane and Bastien try to "fix that which is broken", before its too late for them both. They must break a centuries old curse placed upon two ill fated lovers, who did nothing wrong other love the other.

Gothic Romance lovers will love this modern tale, as it also has more than a few scenes that flashback to days of old. Not a dull moment, nor a wasted page, The Shadows of Stormclyffe Hall is a true must read.

Origins Review

Origins by Sean Hayden
Demonkin Book 1
RePublised September 2, 2014
5 BLOODY CLAWS AND FANGS!

"Urban Fantasy at its Bloody best. All Paranormal lovers will love this, regardless of gender."

Synopsis -

Being different is never easy, especially when you're a vampire.

Ashlyn is far from normal. She was born a vampire, a trait that makes her utterly unique. Knowing this, her family strived to keep her existence a secret. Tragedy forces her from hiding and hunger drives her into the open. Unfortunately, living in a world that has accepted, embraced, and yet still fears the supernatural is never a good place to stand out. Especially when the one who notices you wants you dead. The only people who can save her want to use her as well, but she's left with little choice. Ashlyn joins the FBI and becomes torn between two worlds. She can either be a monster, or she can help destroy them. (Goodreads)

Review -

This is one tale of "Who's the Daddy?" that would have even me watching Maury Povich. Readers won't be finding any romance within these pages. What they will find is plenty of action, blood and a sinisterly good plot. As Ashlyn tries in vane to discover what she truly is, readers will know from page one exactly that, and just which infamous demon spawned her.

Ashlyn would believe that she was a vampire as everyone else does, if it wasn't for all of the anomalies that is her. The biggest one of all being the fact that she was born this way, not made. It isn't until she is unexpectedly thrust into the real world, after growing up in compete seclusion, that she realizes just how many differences she truly has.

After having gone two days without feeding, Ashlyn's hunger strikes with a vengeance. Only her thirst doesn't seem to be for human blood at all, unless it contains more than a taste of magic within its cells. So when she allows her nose to lead her to a vampire bar it could prove to be the either the best decision she has ever made, or the worst mistake of her unlife.

Readers will not be able to put Origins down until they reach the bloody end. This is a read not intended for the squeamish in any way, as it is filled with blood, violence and plenty of macabre mayhem. Sean Hayden has created a true monster, and one that is loyal to a fault. Walk into a world where all of the creatures that go bump in the night are a part your everyday society and policing them would be impossible had the FBI not brought about a task force comprised of their very brethren. And when the revelation is made at the end, the Demon in question will despise the phrase, "You are the Father!", but the question readers will be left with is will he do what he has been decreed?

Any and all fans of Urban Fantasy and Supernatural are sure to love this read, and be more than ready to get their hands on Book 2, Deceptions.

Review -

Walk into the world of Victorian London where ships sail through the sky and goggles, corsets and stop watches are part of the everyday attire. Gordon truly knows her steam and the legends behind the creatures that go bump in the night. Though this novel is a rather lengthy one, each page is well worth the read. Hand of Miriam is a tale full of magic, mayhem, love, loyalty, betrayal and plenty of blood thirsty fiends.

Review -

Took me quite a while to write this review, mainly because I had quite a bit of conflicting emotions in regards to the story-line. Did I not like it due to the fact that I did not read Book 1, Dark Paradise? Or did I just really not like the plot, or was it just the main character? While this book was very well written, descriptions were dead on and the author did know much of comings and goings in the Vodoun world, the plot in itself could use a little more help. Not to mention the main character could use a definite reality check and grow up. "With great power, comes great responsibilities." That saying is true with more than just super heroes. When you wield magic as powerful as what Mala LaCroix holds within her very soul, one cannot just dabble into it, begin a drastic spell, then stop in the middle and say, "Oh, never mind", especially when dealing with other people's souls.

Mala LaCroix is the last living LaCroix, a family of extremely powerful Voodoo Queens. As such she is next in line to the thrown when her Great Aunt passes on to the other side. An aunt whom she has promised to be an apprentice to, and learn how to wield her dark art. But when the time comes she is less than enthused. But with enemies from both sides of the grave out to kill her, maybe going with dear old Auntie isn't such a bad idea.

Landry Prince has escaped the hands of death once again. Only this time, he hasn't come back alone. There is a demon living beneath his skin, devouring his soul with every breath he takes. And the only one he can rely on to rid himself of the demon in the Voodoo Queen herself, Magnolia. The question in that scenario, at what lengths will she go? And how can he keep Mayla safe when he can barely even trust himself?

When the action and magic happen, they do indeed make an impression. Too bad there isn't enough of the good to outweigh the bad. And the supposed 'bad' characters are the ones who keep to story flowing. Just as Magnolia tried to explain to her bullheaded niece, there is no such thing as black magic, either the wielder has a black soul or a light one. The decisions you make and the reasons behind them are all that truly matter. Anyone who practices voodoo, or has any roots in the craft, art or religion, may want to skip this read, because what Mayla does in the end will make you want to make a special little doll with her name on it. This book reads more like a Y/A than a N/A, if not for the sex. The characters are not really at the maturity of someone in the twenties, more like teenagers who still don't know which way is up. With some tweaks, this series does carry a lot of potential. As it stands now... This book cannot be read as a stand-alone, too much needed information is lost without having read the first book.

Betting on Julia Review

Betting on Julia by Nina Croft (ARC Review)
Melville Sisters Book 2
Published August 25, 2014 by Entangled: Covet
3.75 Claws

"In looking for what they both wanted, they find what it is they truly need."

Synopsis -

Small, blonde, bubbly, and with a penchant for all things pink, Julia Melville has always considered herself a nice girl – until she was attacked by a werewolf. Months later, and still in total denial, Julia spends the time between full moons fantasizing that her life is normal. And who could be better to help her with that than her new neighbor, handsome accountant, Sebastian Crane.

For two hundred years, Sebastian, a powerful warlock, has been possessed by a demon. Each day, his soul grows darker, and he knows that soon he will be beyond salvation. But the demon loves to gamble, and he’s made Bastian one final bet—get a good woman to say the words “I love you” and he’ll be free.

Julia wants a normal guy. Bastian needs a good woman. Maybe together they can find something far more valuable…redemption.

Review -

While not being my usual cup of tea, which I'm beginning to see has nothing do with the author (because Nina Croft definitely knows how to bring on the action, mayhem, violence and steam) but more to do with the publisher. Covet is more of a Paranormal Lite. For those readers who would like to try the waters of the Paranormal, but not quite ready to take that full plunge into the darkside. Though most authors fail to grasp what that truly means and write more of a Contemporary Romance where one of  the characters just happens to have fangs or a set of claws. Nina Croft manages to tone the nit, grit blood and gore without losing the full essence of the wolf.

That being said, I like my werewolves strong, dominant, fur flying trying to tear each others throats out, or fucking each others brains out with no compunction or worrying about hurt feelings, at least until they find their soul mates. Not quite the case here. I would not recommend this to die hard werewolf fans looking for that sense of pack life, danger, blood, history, gore and diabolical plots, but, as a good filler while waiting on that next book, like say, Book 4 of The Order or Blood Hunter series, it is a good read.

Bastien has made a bet against anyone in the Supernatural world knows you should not, a demon. But when the prize is his own freedom, to finally be rid of this demon, how he possibly say no. Especially when the task is so simple, "Get a good woman to say, 'I love you'". There is no such thing as simple when it comes to a demon. The woman in question turns out to be Julia Melville, a werewolf. If there is one faction of creatures Sebastien hates its werewolves, the vial beings who caused him to lose his family and the reason he has been stuck with a demon for two hundred years.

Julia has been bound and determined since her attack to pretend that it never even happened. Except for during her FMS, Full Moon Syndrome. Any time other than that Thing just doesn't even exist. Well, her mysterious next door neighbor is making it impossible to ignore Thing, at times making her volatile and others wagging her tail in utter content. Things become even more complicated with the attraction she feels brewing between the two of them, though neither are even looking for a relationship. As always though, what we're looking for is not always what we need. What she's looking for is normal, anything to help her forget what she really is now. Sebastien seems to just bring it to the surface. But is that necessarily a bad thing?

Fun, magical and with a little action thrown in for good measure, Betting on Julia is an enjoyable, wonderfully written, lite read. Though it did end with quite a few unanswered questions; what happened to Sebastiens' daughter, while his wife may have been mortal, his daughter did have his...genes. Those readers looking for a Paranormal Lite with werewolves, this is the perfect read for you.

They were the perfect couple . . . until the dead unicorn thing. Now after four thousand years, Roberto crosses paths with Cimil again, and his love for her is stronger than ever. But can he prove that he can once again be trusted with her heart? (Goodreads)

Review -

Fans of this series, sit back, relax and enjoy this crazy unicorn ride (yes, I said unicorn, only no-one can see her, and she is just as deranged as her owner) that is all Cimil.  Never has so much fun been packed up and delivered in so few words. Readers will also be able to see just how much love is packed within the fiery, evil, twisted, red-headed Goddess of the Underworld. Many secrets and plots will also be brought to light, including the fact that Cimil just may already have her soul-mate.

After Cimil finds love, loses it she is paid a visit by one of her dead. Only this one is even more special than all of the others, its her. And the message she receives is the reason she causing so many accidents, and putting her brethren through torrential hell.  But, the hell they each went through, as she points out, the after effects were beyond a wondrous thing.

Accidentally...Cimil? is beyond a must read, it is essential to this series, all of the reasons for everything that has happened from even Book 1. Be warned though, you may piss your pants from laughing so hard, though not much blood and gore, there are a few parts that will happily make you cringe.
