Review:

Light, a bad boy vampire of the Blood Lifer world, has been hiding in the shadows of paranormal London since Victorian times. His only company? A savage Elizabethan Blood lifer. And he’s keeping a secret from her that breaks every rule.

London, 1960s. When a seductive human singer tempts Light with a forbidden romance, their worlds collide. At the same time, Light discovers his ruthless family’s horrifying experiments. Now he’s torn between slaying the humans he was raised to fear, or saving them.

But an effort to play the hero could spell the end…for both species.

This is the first I have read from this author, and while the writing itself was not bad, but having it in a form of monologue, soliloquy, journal to a lover,  or whatever that was, was just down right painful. It didn't really draw me in, just kept right at arms length, very detached. Because Light was not addressing the reader, just his love in her dying state of the life they had in his recounting. To some it just may be your thing, but I need a little more from books. Which is sad because I could see talent from this author. I do have the others, and do plan to giving them a go, just to see if the style is more to my liking.

Oh, don't forget to brush up on British slang, because it's riddled with them. I thought even though I am from America I could figure most out, as I have read British authors before, some threw me for a loop. Some are just not what you really come into contact with day to day. Slang in books is ok, but there is a point that it is just too much, that goes for American slang as well. Maybe it is me, I don't think that I would deter from buying the books due to that fact alone.

I did love the touch of world building in this first installment. I would have loved more details. Overall, my opinion is this is a good start to a series from a new to me author.

Review: Wicked Bite

Wicked Bite by Rebecca Zanetti
Realm Enforcers Book 5
Published August 1, 2017 by Lyrical Press
Review by Crystal Blood
4 Mystical Stars Claws!

Synopsis:

If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

As she hunts for a drug lord killing her fellow witches, all Tessa Lansa’s instincts point to the Grizzly motorcycle club. That might be because their leader, Bear, is the strong, silent shifter type: warm brown eyes and more muscle and alpha male than any woman can ignore. Which makes Tessa’s plan to seduce and betray him all the more dangerous . . .

Bear doesn’t trust the curvy, blue-eyed witch. But Tessa can heal the injuries that sap his strength. And since he can’t stop thinking of her lush body and teasing smile, her plan to mate him to reclaim her own power is highly tempting. Just one problem. Once a desire this wild is loose, no one will ever control it . . (Goodreads)

Review:

This is my first read from Rebecca Zanetti but it won't be my last. Wicked Bite is part of the Realm Enforcers series but functions well as a standalone if like me you haven't read the other books in the series. I was only confused in a couple of parts but the author does a great job of explaining backstory from the other books in the series so I wasn't completely lost by any means.

Bear is the Alpha of the Grizzles, a shifter MC. As a result of his actions in a previous book Bear is dying from the inside out. He's loosing his strength and slowly he is loosing his life. Bear still has a lot to live for but there is little hope of curing what ails him except a strange witch who claims to have the ability to heal him. Nessa is a unique witch. She doesn't have the same abilities as other witches, her ability is one of a healer. However that ability has made her a target so she suggests a deal to Bear, she will heal him and give his life back to him if he will agree to mate with her. Untrusting of witches in general because of their many secrets, Bear must decide if he wants to live bad enough to trust the little witch.

Like all witches Nessa does have her secrets, she was sent undercover to discover if Bear's MC is dealing a drug that is killing witches. What she uncovers is a conspiracy that not only may tear Bear and Nessa apart but may cost her her life.

With a giant plot twist you probably won't see coming Rebecca Zanetti has earned a fan in me.

A Few Good Review(er)s

A Few Good Review(er)s
I didn’t start off in the book world writing, I started off reviewing. I didn’t think I had it in me to write and complete an entire novel, now I’m almost finished writing my second full novel, and starting on my third novella. But, writing takes time, and takes time away from my pride and joy that brought into contact with a lot of fangtastic authors.
I don’t want to keep letting the Gothic Mom's blog go downhill, but, I can’t keep doing it on my own either. I need more reviewers! If you have a passion for books with a dark touch I’d love to have you join my team, and feel free to bring a friend or two with you. There is no age requirement or restriction, there’s also no pay. But, you will have access to some great books! I only ask that whatever books requested from the list you leave a review within three weeks of receiving it. And feel free to leave a review on a book you’re already reading.
You do NOT have to write a perfect review, just one that shows how you truly feel about what you’ve read. Oh! There will be quarterly prizes for the most active reviewers. And any contest(s) posted on the blog everyone is free to enter.

And introducing my first new accomplice, Crystal Blood! Mrs. Blood is also one of my Demented Diva's!

I hope to be adding more names soon...

A Few Good Review(er)s

I'm still looking for a few good reviewers! Last couple didn't pan out so well, one due to extenuating circumstances, so I am in desperate needs of some acolytes. If you love dark, gothic, paranormal, supernatural, urban fantasy, new age self help(involving magic/chakras only), wiccan/pagan, occult or any other books along those lines, I'm looking for you! I have books streaming in, but not enough time to read them all. All I ask is that you read them in a timely manner and send me an honest review to post on the blog, Goodreads and Amazon. You also review personal books as well if you'd like, and, yes, the credit would go to you. And, no, we do not get paid. I wish! Not all reviews will get a five, just try not to give them all a 1. Interested? Email me at nightmistress88@gmail.com or comment here. Know of someone else who might be, feel free to share this with them, or share this post a copy of this link on your page.

If you're new to reviewing, I'll help you along the way. If you're a vet all the better. Any type of experience is fine, we all had to start somewhere.
