Guest Post by Author Michelle Sharp

Where did the story of Dream Huntress begin? By Michelle Sharp

My debut novel, Dream Huntress, releases on June 23 with Entangled Publishing—and wow—what a journey! I’m feeling a bit nostalgic, because as I prepare to do interviews and blog tours, I’ve been asked over and over what or who inspired me to write this book. After thinking about that question for a long time, I’ve realized there wasn’t a single incident or person that Jordan is created from, rather it was a culmination of events and interests that formed her.

I’ve always loved reading romantic suspense novels, especially if they involve a great police detective story. I often think I should have been a cop or a profiler because I find crime fascinating. Have you ever sat down and just chatted with a police officer? I recently had the pleasure of doing just that, and I could have listened for hours to all the crazy situations this detective had encountered. He looked at me at one point and said, “Seriously, I can’t make this stuff up.” I’m forever grateful to the men and women who are brave enough to strap on a gun every day to go to work. And I love talking with them because their stories make great fiction.
I also had an interesting experience after my father passed away and I think it contributed to the creation of Jordan. I am an only child and my parents were divorced, so I felt very alone in that grief filled process of tying up loose ends for someone I loved. Before losing my dad, I had never given much thought to whether or not a loved one could “hang around” after they passed. But as I was going through his things, talking to him as if he were there, a strange occurrence made me certain he was there with me. I won’t go into specifics, but it was eerie and my hair stood on end. I have never forgotten how certain I was that he was communicating with me.

After that, I enjoyed reading about and watching shows that dealt with psychic mediums. No surprise that Medium was one of my favorite TV shows. But it always ticked me off, that no matter how many cases Allison solved with her psychic abilities, the police department always doubted her visions. I looked at my husband one night and said, “Allison should just tell all those people to jump in a lake and get a badge of her own.”

I suppose my mind subconsciously toyed with that idea for the next few weeks. Shortly after, the character idea for Jordan Delany—cop and medium—came to me in a gush of writing. But I knew instantly that my Jordan Delany would never be like any of the composed, self-assured mediums on TV. Following a tragedy in her past, she would be a darker, more wounded character that has never been at peace with herself or her gift. I spent the next few years getting her story down on paper. I hope I’ve done her justice, but there are still days she rolls her eyes at me and says, “Seriously? That’s the best you can do?”

She’s been a different kind of heroine from the get-go. A little rough around the edges and her vocabulary might be sort of… ahem… colorful. But her badge means everything, and she has a fierce compassion for the dead who appear in her dreams and need help to find justice.

My hope for the reader is that you will enjoy reading about her life (and the dead she communicates with) as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.

Keep Dreaming-
Michelle

Book Title: Dream Huntress
Author: Michelle Sharp
Release Date: June 23, 2014
Genre: Romantic Suspense/ Ignite
Author Website: michellesharpbooks.com
Author Twitter: @msharpbooks

Author Bio:

Michelle Sharp is a romantic suspense author from the Midwest. Although she has a degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University, she finds weaving tales of danger, deception, and love much preferable to reporting the cold, hard facts. Her goal in life? To team resilient, kick-ass heroines with the sexy alpha’s who love them. As most writers probably are, she is an avid reader. Her husband and kids would call it obsessive—but whatever. Her first choice is usually a story with a thrilling combination of danger and love, but any book with a great voice and intriguing story will keep her turning pages well past any reasonable bed-time.

Her debut novel will be published with Entangled Ignite in June of 2014. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and Missouri Romance Writers.

Book Synopsis:

Detective Jordan Delany has a gift. Through her dreams, she connects with dead victims of violent crimes. Her isolated life as a drug cop is perfect for hiding the freakish visions, until her newest investigation has her posing as a cocktail waitress in a down-and-dirty strip club. When she’s saved from a drunken customer by a handsome stranger, the heated chemistry is exactly why she intends to keep Mr. Arrogant at bay. But learning he’s the new bouncer for the corrupt club she intends to bust just might be the one reason why she can’t.

Tyler McGee suspects a drug ring operating out of the local club is flooding the streets of his hometown with heroin. Determined to get answers, he plays the part of a fallen cop and lands the job of head bouncer. What he discovers is that the club owner isn’t the only deadly obstacle he’s facing. His attraction to an intriguing cocktail waitress with a penchant for danger just might kill him first.

The Demon Creed Blog Tour

The Demon Creed
by: Paula Altenburg
Release Date: 5/26/14
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Author Bio: I’d like to be able to say I always wanted to be a writer, but the truth is I thought it looked like a lot of hard work. Life, however, sometimes leads us down paths we never intended to take.

From the very beginning, my parents encouraged my love of books. When a Grade One teacher suggested I wrote too many “thrillers,” my mother, an English teacher, said I could write – and read – whatever I wanted. My high school English teachers later backed her up on that. In university, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Anthropology. At the time it was a whim, but it’s amazing how much that little piece of paper has benefited me over the years.Researching the history of civilizations has led to many intriguing worldbuilding possibilities.

When my children were babies and money was tight, my mother, grandmother, and husband bought me an electric typewriter for my birthday because they knew I was bored and wanted me to be happy. My mother became my very first critique partner, willingly reading pages and pages of manuscripts no one should ever have to suffer through. She researched markets for me, and introduced me to a journalist friend, who in turn introduced me to the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia. My brother and my brother-in-law introduced me to Thieves’ World, David Eddings, and Piers Anthony. My sister gave me my first computer.

My grandmothers believed if something’s too hard, you aren’t working hard enough. My brother and sisters have all successfully followed their dreams, and my husband and two sons offer me proof every day that hard work is something to be embraced, not avoided. With these people behind me, how could I possibly stray from a path on which life seems to have planted them as guardrails?

Synopsis: As a highly skilled assassin, Creed is used to being called upon by the Godseekers for help. But in a world just recently rid of demons, the task to now track down half-demons isn't as easy as it seems. Not only is Creed himself a secret half-demon now going against his own kin, but when he discovers numerous innocent children are being kidnapped in the mountains, he second guesses his mission. Justice should be for all, not just for demon spawn. Living in a world of cruel men, Nieve has no memory of her life before her enslavement. But when Creed comes around asking questions about missing children, the memories of her half-demon son - and the demon who tricked her - come flooding back. Now, Nieve will do anything to get her son back...even if it means putting her trust in Creed. Together they set out to find the Demon Slayer who can help them. Little do they know the demon who fathered Nieve's son is also searching for Nieve, and he's teamed up with the kidnapper to draw her out.  Creed and Nieve must race against the clock to save the children, their hearts, and the world.

The Last Confession of the Vampire Judas Iscariot Spoltlight

The Last Confession of the Vampire Judas Iscariot

About The Last Confession of the Vampire Judas Iscariot

Of all the people who ever lived, surely Judas Iscariot, history’s most notorious betrayer, must be in hell. Or maybe not.

After watching the crucifixion of Jesus, Judas despairs over what he has done and fumes that the Messiah he put his trust in has turned out to be just another pretender like all the rest. The toxic mix of emotions is too much for him to bear and Judas commits suicide by hanging himself.

He is restored to life by the Devil and made into a vampire apostle. The Devil teaches Judas to manipulate men and history. He becomes a king, a general, a teacher and a blacksmith, whatever is needed to effect the outcome of history and move it towards the goal of his new master.

Each time he is ready to move on to his next incarnation he must drink the blood of an innocent victim to be restored to his youthful vigor. But despite his many powers and abilities Judas knows there is one thing he desires and cannot have. Finally Judas meets a laicized priest, Raymond Breviary, and tries to steal from him what he was denied two thousand years before.

Excerpt

‘Elisa’ calmed and the struggle was over. How dare she speak of me like I’m already dead? I know these faces… Father Johannes was throwing holy water over her bed and chanting in Latin.

“E-l-i-s-a i-s b-a-c-k!” a loud voice echoed in the room for all to hear. Quentin was very surprised. “She is back! Father Johannes, how is it possible?”

Father Johannes’ voice was frail. He was a short, gibbous man with an aquiline nose and big, deep eyes. “God the almighty never betrays us, my son!” He raised the wooden cross with his right hand.  “Whatever evil was holding her from life – from death – is here no more!” He came closer to Quentin, reaching for his ear. “She is strong, my son! Keep pretending until the last moment. We don’t want it to happen, but if she survives we don’t want her to tell anyone about what we did.”

“If she survives it will be for a very short time. I will take care of her once and for all, Father!” Quentin pretended he was seeing a miracle from the seven heavens. His young wife back from the dead! How was it possible? We did everything we could, but you persisted… “Elisa, my dearest, you’re alive! You live! You have come back to us!” Quentin continued, admiring that she had endured so much.

Blue Plate Special: Promo Blitz

Blue Plate Special - PROMO Blitz
By Harold Kempka
Horror
Date Published: June 4, 2013

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Hal takes you right to the action in the Blue Plate Special anthology. This compilation of horror flash fiction dips, loops, and twists to churn your gut and draw out your primal fear without lengthy descriptions and back story.

In the anthology’s namesake, “Blue Plate Special,” Billy stops at a roadside café on a lonely, foggy highway. The blue plate special on the menu sounds good and even comes with desert. Yum-yum.

An old woman matches wits with a burglar; while hitchhikers thumb rides and Good Samaritans pick them up. An office worker boards the last train home. Lonely singles, zombies, vampires, and dark sinister creatures bumping in the night further grace the pages, as do unruly children, psychos and the people who love them.

Blue Plate Special contains something for nearly every twisted mind, and in the span of a lunch hour you can read a tale or two. While you head back to work energized, you may even ponder an idea or two about retaliating against your heavy-handed boss.

EXCERPT

Billy leaned against the steering wheel, his fatigued eyes trying to follow the white line separating the gravel shoulder from the deserted highway. The soupy fog, however, swallowed up his headlights a few feet past the bumper. Hunger ate at his stomach as he turned the radio dial scanning channels.

“Come on!” he grumbled, hearing only static.

He glanced back at the road. The hazy aura of flashing red lights lit up the darkness ahead. Billy slowed to a near crawl upon reaching the accident scene.

A state police officer stood beside a red flare, flashlight in hand ready to direct traffic. Emergency crews worked at a feverish pace, extricating victims from the smoldering, crumpled vehicles. A paramedic performed CPR on a bloodied, mangled victim thrown onto the road shoulder.

Visualizing the horror of the victim’s incineration, Billy shuddered and hoped they died first. As he drove past, the traffic officer’s deep set eyes bored through him with an indifferent gaze.

The last he heard was a paramedic shouting, “Come on, buddy, breathe!”

A few miles past the carnage, the fog thinned and he accelerated. Up ahead, Billy spotted a neon arrow on a sign pole that impaled a mangled Peterbilt. A placard on the truck’s grill read, Junkyard Café.

Anxious for a hot meal and a brief respite, Billy pulled in. A field littered with rusting, wrecked cars sat in the lot behind the cafe, no doubt the reason for its namesake. He parked alongside a gray Chevy Van in the otherwise empty lot, and walked toward the cafe entrance.

The aroma of hot coffee and greasy hamburgers swirled through the air as he stepped inside. The only other customer was a family hunched over a table tucked against the far wall.

They avoided eye contact as Billy slid into a booth and grabbed the menu off the table. A plump, tired-looking waitress stepped from the kitchen. After wiping her hands on a grease-stained apron, she waddled to his booth.

“It must be my lucky night,” she said. “Crappiest fog in years and I got customers. I’m Lorraine by the way, and not ‘hey you’ or ‘waitress’.”

“Yeah, well…uh, Lorraine I’m lost and hungry. I hope you can help me out on both counts.”

“Uh-huh,” she said poising her pencil over the order pad. “So, do you know what you want or do you need a minute?”

Billy glanced at the special on the menu jacket.

“I’ll have the hot beef sandwich and coffee.”

“Good choice.”

Lorraine turned toward the kitchen and hollered, “One Blue Plate Special!”

Billy heard muffled laughter in the kitchen. She returned a minute later with his coffee, but disappeared back into the kitchen. He stared through a window toward the junked cars. The bluish flashes of fireflies dotted the darkness.

An older, raggedly dressed couple stepped through the doors and Lorraine hollered, “Hi there! I haven’t seen you two in ages.”

They sat in a booth near Billy. “It’s always good to swing by and see you, Lorraine.”

As other customers straggled in, Louise greeted them in a similar fashion. She stayed busy chatting and filling coffee cups.

Finally, Lorraine returned with his meal. The tantalizing aroma fueled Billy’s hunger. He shoved a forkful of roast beef mixed into his mouth. His stomach welcomed the pleasant warmth.

After a few bites, however, the taste turned rancid. He glanced at his plate, where pile of maggots wriggled among slices of nearly raw flesh. Billy gagged and gulped at his coffee, but spit out the mouthful of warm, coagulating blood.

Billy gasped for air and broke into a sweat. He glanced at the family. Gaping wounds covered their charred and twisted bodies and a pool of dark crimson oozed from beneath their table.

A fetid odor filled the air. He slid from the booth and staggered toward the door. Lorraine and the others watched him through milky eyes set deep in their sockets.

Sex and the Single Vamp Review

3.5 Fangs

"Perfect book for Contemporary Romance readers who would like to take a dip into PNR."

Review -

Robin Covington, usually a Contemporary Romance author, dips her hands into the ever-growing pool of the Vampire world.  Many authors have tried to venture off into unknown territory and failed miserably.  Covington didn't do too bad, a little more blood, gore and violence, and a little more believe-ability, and she'll be right there hitting the mark.   So true vampire fans, this is a great quick read for when in between reads, when impatiently awaiting for that next book in a series to come out, it's an excellent filler.  As long as you look past the slights and miscalculations, and aren't too much of a stickler for detail, like me.  Contemporary readers, especially those who are virgin's to all things vampire, this is a great read to tip-toe you in.

Felicity "Cici" Trenton has always believed in and longed for true love.  Since she hasn't been able to find it for herself, she has done the next best thing, in her own eyes anyway.  Opening up a Match Maker business, "Your 'Other' Half", where Others, such as Were's, Vampire's, Shapeshifters', are paired up with humans.  Not just for a casual hook up, but for holy matrimony.  Something I am in full agreement with Deacon, her Maker/Fling/First Love on, that has got to be the most insane thing she could have come up with.  Its one thing for an 'Other' to inadvertently fall in love with a human.  But to actively seek one out, not knowing if their body/blood would be compatible to change them over to what you are, and you would only have one lifetime with him/her and continue to live a dozen more...  So it should come as to no surprise that other people think that way as well, and it puts under the scrutinizing gaze of fanatics than would like nothing more than to see her business in ruins, but to see her completely dead.  Well, her dead and vengeance on Deacon, and killing Cici would be like getting two birds with the same stone.  What is a surprise is who the killer turns out to be.

Entangled March Madness

March Madness with Entangled Embrace has kicked off with a bang with all of our titles going on sale at $.99, a fun filled day with all our Embrace authors on Facebook on March 13 and today we have a brand new release, Darkside Sun by Jocelyn Adams.

It’s already receiving rave reviews and can be picked up at a steal of $.99 today!

Darkside Sun by Jocelyn Adams

The dead have been waiting for her…

Addison Beckett tries hard to pretend she’s normal, but she’s far from it. Since she was six years old, she’s seen the world around her unraveling, as if someone is pulling a thread from a sweater and it’s all slowly coming undone. When she ignores it, it goes away, so that’s what she does.

Enter her arrogant-but-hot professor Asher Green. He knows all about her special brand of crazy. In fact, he might be just as nuts as she is. Asher insists that the dead from a parallel dimension are trying to possess the living in this one. And since Addison seems to be the only one who can see these “wraiths,” she just might be the key to saving the world.

Addison wants nothing to do with Asher or his secret society, The Mortal Machine. But as their animosity grows, she finds it harder and harder to ignore the chemistry between them. And when she discovers that Machine laws forbid her from touching him, she realizes that’s all she wants to do.

Stop the wraiths. Break the rules. Save the world. All in a day’s work.

Normal was overrated, anyway.
