About the Author:

Hanleigh loves books more than nearly anything in the world; whether its reading them or writing them, Hanleigh just can't get enough. She relishes in the way authors can create worlds with the words they put in their books. She loves the way your imagination introduces you to a new world when you read a book. It may well be a world completely foreign to the one you live in. That world is brought to life; inspires you to dream, captivates your imagination, entices your senses.

Hanleigh first took to reading as a small child reading Dr Zeus. She then fell in love with romance literature when she first read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; when she first swooned over Mr Darcy. She's read more books than she can count and owns more books than some libraries.

Although born in Scotland, she sometimes wishes she could live inside the world that she can create inside her mind, but since that isn't possible she puts pen to paper and shares that world with this world instead. There is something addictive about being able to mould your words into something that causes the reader to fall into your mind. When you put pen to paper and create a world, it's exhilarating. Every word has meaning. You know every character intimately. You know every secret, every whisper, every smell, every look; as the author you know the world you created and more so than even the most avid of readers you can get lost in your own creation.

A Glimmer of Hope (The Avalon Chronicles #1)A Glimmer of Hope by Steve McHugh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

High octane action and pure fun. This is amazing right outta the gate. Hit the ground running and never stopped. Monsters, mythology, and ancient scrolls - I'm giving the author a high five here.

Layla Cassidy's life is forever changed when she stumbles upon an ancient scroll. She's now on the run and doesn't know who to trust or what to believe. The secondary characters are awesomesauce! Mr. McHugh does an astounding job of giving each of them uniqueness and depth. The monsters are detailed vividly, and you may see them in your nightmares. Layla is exceptional, and this is just the beginning of her journey.

I'm so excited to have a new author to read. This is the first in a new series, but a spin-off, so I can't wait to read them all. Paranormal and fantasy readers must read this!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm giving this five stars for originality. Compelling from the first page. This is told from a first person viewpoint. I was completely surprised and immensely pleased at how good this is. After reading the blurb, I was intrigued. When starting to read about Vincent Carpenter, you get pulled in at the beginning. There's this need to know more in this strange fantasy world with a medley of even stranger characters throughout.

Vincent is on a quest to find The Green Maiden, and so his adventure begins. Lots of craziness and evil things are lurking in this one-man journey, so keep your eyes open. If you're looking for something different, this is it.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was like being on a roller coaster ride. As crazy as this is, every chapter had something unexpected. The premise caught my interest right away since I enjoy reading books with a unique concept. There is plenty of action in this book, and I do mean plenty.

The author crafted this world where unlikely office workers become heroes and come together to fight fantastical creatures from another dimension. You never know what will be around the next corner. The characters take on a life of their own. I would have liked a little more background on each of them, but I think this was meant to jump right into the thick of it all. Anything goes in this world. The question is, will they make it out alive? This will appeal to fantasy readers and those who love great fighting scenarios.

The inspiration for Elevator Quest
by Emmanuel M Arriaga

I dream a lot, and vividly. I try to write down what I dream, with some crazy stuff having come out of my subconscious over the years. Much of my writing is inspired by early morning scribblings of fading details. This must happen within seconds of waking up, otherwise the details are gone forever. Elevator Quest came to me in a dream. The dream was fueled by my love of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and probably a late-night gaming session. Much of the elements within Elevator Quest pay homage to D&D in some fashion. You can almost feel the proverbial hand of a Dungeon Master at work as the band of office workers descend into the fantasy adventure.

Usually in my dreams, the primary characters are there, the setting is there, and the meat of the adventure or scene is there. When I capture that magical dream juice, writing it down actually embeds the memories of the dream in that scribbled document forever. I can open any of those documents and begin to read, the dream coming back to me in a flash. Given the volume of dreams that I get, I can’t start writing novels for all of them. Usually, the dream must become an obsession to draw my limited time into focusing on it. Elevator Quest became an obsession.

I couldn’t get it out of my head. I couldn’t stop thinking about the characters, the setting, the potential story opportunities. I know that when this happens, I must drop whatever I’m doing and focus on it right away. This of course meant putting the sequel to my first novel on hold. I consider Elevator Quest a tribute to essential D&D stories, paying respect to book series like Dragonlance and The Legend of Drizzt.

My one hope, is that Elevator Quest will rekindle the flame of D&D in those who have drifted away from the pastime, and expose a whole new group of people who have never considered D&D to a brand-new world.

4 Magical Stars

Synopsis:

In a world of etiquette and polite masks, no one is who they seem to be.

Antonina Beaulieu is in the glittering city of Loisail for her first Grand Season, where she will attend balls and mingle among high society. Under the tutelage of the beautiful but cold Valérie Beaulieu, she hopes to find a suitable husband. However, the haphazard manifestations of Nina’s telekinetic powers make her the subject of malicious gossip.

Yet dazzling telekinetic performer and outsider Hector Auvray sees Nina’s powers as a gift, and he teaches her how to hone and control them. As they spend more and more time together, Nina falls in love and believes she’s found the great romance that she’s always dreamed of, but Hector’s courtship of Nina is deceptive.

The Beautiful Ones is a sweeping fantasy of manners set in a world inspired by the Belle Époque. (Goodreads)

Review:

This is an interesting love story. There is a light touch of paranormal because the two main protagonists have telekinetic abilities. I would have loved to see more use of these gifts in the book. The plot and romance are slow developing and well-written, which make it all the more sweeter.

I honestly wasn't a big fan of Hector through most of the book, but he grew on me with the way the author had me understanding his point of view. Antonina, or Nina as she likes to be called, is just lovely and optimistic about everything. Throughout the book, I found myself saying, please let Nina get her happily ever after. All readers will root for her. This is a gentle romance for those who enjoy the build-up without all the sex. I'd like to see what this author will create next.

Draven had approached her with an agenda, her father had committed treason, and everyone in House of Ufran had been beheaded. When a magical amulet gives her a second chance at life, she has to avoid her mistakes and prevent her family’s downfall before it’s too late.

Note for readers: Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone. (Goodreads)

Review:

A beautifully written love story about getting a second chance to find the love that was right in front of you from the beginning. Amid all the twists and turns, she is able to really see what was right there all along. A definite page Turner you never know which way it's going till you get there. Loved it.

Synopsis:

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Winter Kingcomes a breathtaking new tale of love and adventure set in the mystical land of Mystral...

He wasn't supposed to choose her...

Seafaring prince Dilys Merimydion has been invited to court the three magical princesses of Summerlea. To eradicate the pirates threatening Calberna and to secure the power of the Sea Throne, Dilys vows to return home with a fierce warrior-queen as his bride. But politics has nothing to do with unexpected temptation.

She didn't dare wed him...

A weathermage like her sisters, Gabriella Coruscate's gentleness exemplifies the qualities of her season name, Summer. Yet her quiet poise conceals dangerous powers she cannot begin to wield. Better to live without excitement, she reasons, than risk her heart and lose control— until an irresistible Sealord jolts her awake with a thunderclap of raw desire.

Until evil threatens everything they hold dear...

When pirates kidnap Summer and her sisters, Dilys is in a desperate quest to save the woman he loves. Only by combining his command of the seas with the unleashed fury of Summer's formidable gifts can they defeat their brutal enemies and claim the most priceless victory of all: true love. (Goodreads)

Review:

I'll start by saying that I have read other books by C.L. Wilson and loved them. The first chapter of this book is somewhat confusing with all the names and keeping track of who's who, that many new readers may not want to read any further. It does get better after that. The author did a wonderful job fleshing out the hero Dilys, and you can picture him vividly as one hunk of a male. The Seasons are a lovely group of three sisters who many suitors hope to covet but have not succeeded. While I enjoyed Summer as the main heroine, she was not my favorite as far as heroines go. The secondary characters held more appeal for me. Overall, this was entertaining and I would read this author again.

Scolding breath escaped Marseha’s lungs. Nightmares clouded her vision. She couldn’t talk, couldn’t see, couldn’t feel, but she knew. Knew that Saldor lived. For that she would fight beyond this Elders’ curse.

“Please, you must be well.” Risme’s soft voice flittered through the screams of her people now fading from her consciousness.

“It cannot be,” a deep voice sounded. His voice.

Coughing to clear the ashen smoke from the back of her throat, she answered, but no sound passed her lips. Sadness wept from her soul. Not her own sadness, but something of another realm. Thick, frightening, deathly, a bone-crunching energy pummeled her, Elders and witches both fighting within for control.

“Come back to me,” Risme whispered into her ear, an echo of promise if she survived the war within.

“I have never witnessed such a reaction to the amulet's removal,” a male voice said.

If the Elders and the Veiled Queen continued their battle, she’d be nothing but dust. Ancestors, I summon you. Break me from this madness.

A storm’s wind blew through her, hurling the control of others from her body. With a heave of breath, the madness went silent and her eyes saw beyond the dark mist. To a God. No, a man. A man with thick dark hair, brown eyes, full lips and the strength of a warrior. “Saldor?” she choked.

“Yes. Yes, it is me.” He remained a distance away, on his knees, his hands in his hair. His torn clothing revealed snatches of a man’s body, arms that she’d longed to feel around her for an eternity. No longer was he the boy she once knew.
